We use a ramp for our labradoodle. Just a board we set up and take down, takes jsut a second, but that means when we want him to stay below, he stays below. No quietly, but he stays.

And, if a bladder leaks on deck you will never be able to safely walk on that deck again. Diesel is slippery and pervasive. Go with jerry jugs. And, tie each one on to the backing board separately...
