Bene OCEANIS 46.1

Hi folks, I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a boat this winter/next spring and narrowed down to 2 choices: Bene 46.1 and Seawind 1190 Sport both new. I realize it is an odd choice and if...

Hi all, I live ~1hr from Chesapeake and looking for ways to get qualification for OUPV without purchasing a boat. Because I owned a power boat before I can meet 360 day requirement, but not the 90...

Re: is buying a new boat similar to buying an RV

While I appreciate the comment and may ultimately buy a used boat, I would like to keep this thread focused on the topic if possible.

Re: Jeanneau vs Amel

Can you be a bit more specific about what makes Amel a better Ocean Crossing and a live aboard vessel and most importantly, can I outfit Jeanneau with similar systems for a much lower price. For the...

Re: Jeanneau vs Amel

Good point. To that end I just completed ASA 103/104 and signed up for an offshore trip next May delivering a Swan 58 from the Caribbean to CT. My plan is to continue to crew until I am ready to...

Re: Jeanneau vs Amel

I think you nailed it... There are people that can afford 2 mil for a boat and they will look for the custom woodwork, etc. I am good with the “plastic” boat, as long as it sails well and can last 1o...

Re: Jeanneau vs Amel

This is precisely what I am trying to understand. In addition, many posts I read said that the captain and crew have a much larger impact than the boat itself (within a reason). So I am better off...

Re: Jeanneau vs Amel

So as a car and a motorcycle enthusiast I can explain exactly what the difference is between a fiat and a Mercedes, I am looking for help to understand this in sailboats. It’s is my understanding...

Re: Jeanneau vs Amel

Both are good points and while that explains increase in price it does not explain increase in quality. Also, I do not personally care about the finishes or woodwork. I only case about sail-ability...

Re: First boat for new sailor

Just came back from the 5 day live aboard 103/104. Passed both tests and learned a ton. My power boat experience translated well at the marina docking. Sailing an all sail 26’ no auxiliary power...

Jeanneau vs Amel

I am sure this has been discussed before, so if you point me to the right thread that would work too. I just completed 5 day live aboard 103/104 ASA course on a 41 Bene, and just so happen to be...

Re: In-mast vs in-boom furling

What kind of boat do you have if you do not mind me asking? Also, do you need special sails for in-boom and can you reef continuously like in-mast, or do you have special parts of sail that you need...

Re: In-mast vs in-boom furling

I understand your point, but unless you have this consistent approach, meaning you do not have a motor on your boat or any electronics to keep things simple, I think this is not an argument I can get...

Re: In-mast vs in-boom furling

Just to clarify on my original post, I was not considering to retrofit either in-mast or in-boom. It was more about from the factory type deal one vs the other.

Re: In-mast vs in-boom furling

If you could spec your cat with in-boom from factory... would you do that or still go with in-mast?
