Re: Rogue Wave Update

I will chime in here since the sited article refers to the SS Spray and a wave she encountered off of SC. Just the other day siting at the dock on the creek here in Charleston we had big tides with...

Re: Why do people, who have no experience

Its the Dunning-Kruger effect. Dimwits think they know everything. Since the smart ones are surrounded, they think they are stupid also.

Then there is the Peter principle- in a hierarchy every...

Re: Is there any 'boat for sale' site that compares to yachtworld.com?

I think the majority of boats for sale flow thru y-world, or the broker links to y-w.

Re: CQR Blues

There is no way a properly set, scoped, w/chain, huge 80#cqr would be dragged by a 19' tender. I can see the 57'er dragging it.
Explain it to me, I am a skeptic.

Re: new vs old

They don't make them like they used to. B-teau's are great boats and some are made here in SC. I have delivered a few out from Charleston. At Sea they are fine, my biggest complaint is the flat hull...

Re: transporting a mast across town

Ask the shop how to move it.
Or, rent a trailer. Build a rack, an A-frame of sort (2x4s, 1x2s), support it so most of the overhang is over the vehicle. X-brace between frames. 5' o.h over the back.

Re: How to Determine Boat Value via Internet (Valiant 42) ?

Looks like there are several in the MD, Va region. Just fly in to a convenient airport, rent a car, hit 'em all. Even the one down in Oriental. Then to a trip to FLa to see that cheaper one.

Re: How to Determine Boat Value via Internet (Valiant 42) ?

The V42 is a very nice boat. When I was boat shopping I went on two separate trips to look at boats. Prior to that I had never been on a b-40, just seen them on the internet or a glance here and...

Re: Yet Another Boat Purchase Advice Thread - Chesapeake Bay

The J30 is a nice boat, the guy down the dock from me has one. Paid, like, 18k. She has a very nice ash interior. Maybe too small for a growing family, but any boat is, really. The Tartan 37s are...

Re: sloop vs cutter

yawl rig- It also is a flag pole. We did sail jib and jigger last week and that was nice not messing w/the mainsail. Likewise the cuter has sail plan options.
