Re: Tohatsu 3.5Hp Starting Issues

I have a similar engine and had similar problems. The issue came down to the carburetor, one more specifically the main jet. Although it looked clear, there was a coating of varnish inside that...

Re: Addressing Misinformation and Harmful Content Online

An effective government can be had with polarized point of views. The problem as I see it that the US political mood has gone from " I disapprove of what you say but defend to the death you're...

Re: Thru-hulls -- ease my worried mind

I think you're fine. Personally, I close every thru hull every time I leave the boat except for the scuppers.

To the more important point, that looks like a residential gate valve. It does not...

Re: New forum for Covid-19 Topics - README

I cannot comment specifically about The quality of the antibody tests done in Spain. However what I can say with certainty, is the antibody tests have to be taken with considerable skepticism. Two...

Re: Covid vaccination status for CF members

There seems to be a link between The viral load and immunity. In other words people who had a small viral load and didn't get that sick, didn't have sufficient immune response to provide lasting...

Re: Covid vaccination status for CF members

If I may frame your position in another way, getting the vaccine is far safer then going out on the ocean in a fiberglass bathtub with sticks and rags attached to the top. Is that accurate? Just...

Re: Leaking impeller (not from the cover)

I would suggest to replace to bearings at the same time. Seawater could have gone past the leaky seal and corroded the bearings. for the small additional amount it's not working when the job twice...

Re: Backing Plates and doublers- Aluminum or Fiberglass?

I have used FRP 1/4 and 3/8th sheets as a backing plate, a bit less expensive than G-10 I believe. Hard as a rock. I used a sawzall with a metal blade to cut it. I was able to cut round holes...

Re: Tips for long-term winter sailing

In regards to base layers, I strongly suggest Merino wool. It does not itch, it's actually more comfortable than the synthetic base layers, wicks moisture well, and most importantly it doesn't...

Re: Buying an Aloha 27 - is this a good deal?

With the caveat that I do not know anything about the specific boat, I can tell you with certainty you can do a lot better. Sales and rigging are going to cost you more than $2,000. Add into that...
