Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I visited 49 countries during my Navy career. I had a great time in most of them. I bought a truck (semi) after I retired so I could see the USA and Canada. After I had seen most every place I...

Re: knots for deck jerry cans

Nice website. I stumbled across it a couple months ago while searching for knots. My "engineman" knots weren't cutting it after buying my sailboat.

Re: Mexico. Go or no go?

November, 2014 due to a recent dream recalling graft and corruption I encountered in countries during two previous near global circumnavigations. At the top of the list, because it would be my first...

Alcohol Stove Replacement

"The Keefer" came with this old pressurized alcohol burner top. I have no worries about using it because I have been around them for some time. I am more worried about family using it when I am not...

Re: What pressure to test coolant system?

You wrote possible water leak. That by itself raises more questions. What is actually happening?

As far as testing.......7 PSI won't hurt anything as long as the cap is rated for holding it. If...

Notice To Mariners

I was wondering how many CF'ers make use of the updates for their charts. I pulled out some old charts the other day to bring over to my boat. After looking at them, I could see that they were still...

Re: So much to do to my little boat, how do you prioritize?

Welcome CaptainHooks

The most import things are making the boat safe to live aboard, and then seeing if you can make it comfortable enough.

All the rest is just another adventure, or a walk...

Re: Who knows what this is

I have installed a few engines that had flex couplings. I wish all boats came with them. They do allow for a little misalignment, which is a good thing from some of the work I have witnessed from a...

Tiller Auto Pilot

The man who sold me the boat included this Navico tiller pilot. The decal has a bad scratch through the model# and I cannot tell what it is. Navico's website wasn't very helpful in identifying it.

Re: Erratic RPM's - Yam15hp

bcripps... you said:

I hardly ever run the engine above quarter-throttle; as indicated by the little bars on the grip. Never bring the dingy up on plane.

I believe that is a large part of your...

Re: Osmosis Blisters - Spot Repair?

Are these blisters the the repaired ones, or are they new blisters that have formed since the repair work was completed?

Re: Erratic RPM's - Yam15hp

A lot of things can be going on to affect RPM at 1/4 throttle. I am thinking you have a slight blockage in the main circuit . When the throttle is cracked 1/4 open there is still enough vacuum to...

Re: Korean Ferry Crew Sentenced

It is the crews job to protect the passengers. They had almost 2 1/2 hours to help the people on board. Some of the crew were drinking beer while the ship was in danger. The Cap't and some of his...

Re: Help! Which is better 5hp Honda or 6hp Nissan

You can't go wrong with either. The Japanese fisherman have been using Tohatsu/Nissan outboards since the 1950's because they were cheap and reliable. The company has been making engines since the...

Re: Building a stitch and glue rowboat

I have built a few stitch and glue boats over the years. The last one was from a set of plans from Glen L. It was a 15' 6" long.......... wide bottom skiff. I went with my own "schedule of...

Re: Can this Yanmar Heat Exchanger & Elbow be saved?

I would toss it and get a new one. But then.... it is easy for me to say when I am not the one forking out the money for a new one.

1. The tube bundle might be leaking by, or getting ready to...

Re: Engines louder after overhaul

The 50 series is used for shorter exhaust hose length. Did you reconfigure anything along with the overhaul?

Re: Bilge Pump

Yes..... a must have when you have enough room inside the hull above the waterline, but I have been on too many boats where it wouldn't take much listing to render them useless.

Re: Bilge Pump

Common sense tells me that any through hull discharge near the waterline would have a check valve. I cannot imagine anyone thinking otherwise.

Re: Next Step to Get Diesel Started

Probably wouldn't hurt to have the injectors/nozzles tested as well.....if you know they might have had dirty fuel run through before you bought the engine.
