Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Hi David

That's great on the bowsprit. Only thought is, good luck getting it shipped from FP in France. I truly hope I'm wrong.
Good to hear on swim platform. I think that the issue is still the...

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Hi Barra

I do think the Astrea is def better than the Lipari experience you describe. That said, we have a pivotal waypoint in Abaco known as Point Set Rock which seems to be central to all...

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Hey David:

I went through the bowsprit decision process and ordered it despite loving to get a Parasailor (there are a few competing versions now). But worth knowing that the combined price of a...

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Hi Barra:

Sorry I missed your question on sailing to wind. On tacking angle - I'm truly still playing with this although impressed so far by how close we can get for a Cat. Up to a few years ago,...

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

On sail choice, went with standard furling Genoa. No gennaker or Code 0 yet, but bowsprit and gear are fitted. No idea yet on where I'll source.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Hi Steve

No, you can't make a wrong decision there. That said, the final swing for us was cabin/berth size v Lagoon. On the Astrea, even with 4 cabins, you can 'walk' around all 4 berths. Everyone...

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

No, deposit is with FP. Same risk as a deposit with any company. Get a good broker. I can thoroughly recommend Stephen Cockcroft (Cat Guru) having been thru the end to end process with him.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Haha. No worries. I might have paid the added 10% around same time as you. I can't actually remember, thankfully! Only memory is paying 10% early on, then another 10% closer to delivery, with final...

I've found a dinghy...

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

You might need slightly beefier lines than FP supplies for that extra weight. I'll be surprised if ours aren't a little chaffed already. As live aboards you'll prob raise & lower the dinghy a lot...

On TV recess guys, we have Samsung 32" smart TV in the recess and fits perfectly flush. Very adequate size from my POV. Linked up my laptop remotely and was comfortable surfing YouTube from sofa.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

FP keeps 230v/240v circuits even on the 110v equipped Astrea for A/C etc. Should have reasonably easy access for a circuit in one of the forepeaks OR, even easier tank access in anchor locker. Lots...

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

I dont think you are much off at all. If we averaged that for 24hrs, we'd be using c. 3x our solar production. Reality is, we aren't entirely off grid so genset and motors do come on everyday when...
