Thanks for the update. Yeah, I also had to replace the sail drive which required complete removal of the engine. Only 1600 hours... I will second your '$$$' comment

Re: Volvo D2 75F Waste-gate stuck
Hi all - did anyone ever settle any of this? My D2-75F wastegate is frozen. I'll be trying to free it up once I get the exhaust riser removed. Any tips for freeing it?
Also - this topic has...

Hi everyone - thank you all again for the amazing insights and tips. I'm happy to report that the small piece (image shown in the first post of this thread) now looks almost like GLASS. Sanding...

Re: Is this the difference between Cetol and varnish?
This is one of the reasons I've been looking into this. If you read all the tests and comparisons Cetol comes out well but doesn't look as good as varnish. But in what way? The tests use the...

Re: Is this the difference between Cetol and varnish?
Ok - update from the OP here. I sanded two pieces - one with an orbital sander, one by hand. Both with 320 grit. I was interested to see that the 'low spots' are indeed aligned with the grain (see...

Thank you, Woodland Hills! I was about to post that very question (ie. whether or not a random oscillating sander would work) :-)

Thanks for all the great responses! I'm going to insert some sanding and try a couple more coats. Really appreciate the collective wisdom.

Is this the difference between Cetol and varnish?
This is my first experience with any type of varnishing. I've read a lot about Cetol versus varnish but it seems to come down to whether the aesthetic advantage for varnish is worth the additional...

I can speak from current experience and its definitely the ugly. My Volvo Penta 150S saildrive has only 1600 hours and has clutch issues. Very dangerous failure mode... It would unpredictably not...

I talked to a prop shop and they also thought it was from barnacles left to long on the blades before I purchased the boat. No pink ruled out galvanic/electrolytic corrosion. Cavitation is...

Yes, the positions are definitely random. All three blades, both sides, random pattern including some near the hub. Most are too deep to sand out, I'm afraid. Most were fair to the surface and not...

My Flexofold 3-blade saildrive prop (20") has some etched 'circles' on the blades (see photo below). They are not deep - maybe the thickness of a fingernail at most. But too deep to buff out.

Thanks for the response. The shudder (very slight by the way) was just a couple times as the jib was being trimmed in. So the sails were fine. Sounds like it may not be too unusual.

Can you feel your sails flog through the deck?
