Re: PR or BVIs

I took a group of 15 year olds on a charter that began in Fajardo, PR and went all the way to Virgin Gorda and back. The BVIs definately had more to hold their interest as well as much shorter...

Re: Can you have Comfort, Value and Performance in a Catamaran?

I don't have any direct contact with them and have only sailed on a Voyage one time about eight years ago. They aren't a huge player in the market but have a presence in the BVIs through Voyage...

Re: Can you have Comfort, Value and Performance in a Catamaran?

What about Voyage yachts? I chartered a 520 in the BVIs several years ago with my family and friends and it seemed to strike a great balance between the three qualifiers. I've been on several...

Re: Cruising BVIs vs St. Martin?

I have sailed both locations multiple times.

The BVIs is the easier of the two and is really built around the charter industry. Plenty of beach bars, mooring balls, shorter sails and no...

Re: Help with Decision to Self Deliver Charter?

Just be a bit cautious about your plan to drop anchor at Catham and then leave the next morning without clearing in to SVG. I believe that as soon as you drop the anchor it is no longer considered...

Re: Help with Decision to Self Deliver Charter?

We did a one-way from St. Lucia to Grenada about a year and a half ago (February or March). Had the boat delivered and had a great sail down to Grenada. There were times I was really glad we...

Re: Antigua/Barbuda to St. Baths Advice

Thanks contrail - good info to have. Think I'm going to see if I can get the OK from the charter company to push off from Barbuda an hour or two before sunrise to make St. Barts in plenty of time to...

Antigua/Barbuda to St. Baths Advice

We are chartering one-way from Antigua to St. Martin in a few weeks. One of our legs is going to be 70-80 miles from Antigua/Barbuda to St. Barths. When we did this charter before we went to Nevis...

Re: Grenada or St Vincent charter where to start etc.

We did a St. Lucia to Grenada charter a little over a year ago. It was an exciting trip and a bit more challenging that sailing in the BVIs. I would recommend a one-way to Grenada that time of the...

Re: SailCarib in Puerto Rico

I've chartered through SailCaribe twice, making it to the BVIs and back both times. Seem like good people who have a long-term outlook on business and take care in how they treat their owners and...

Sorry, missed your follow-up Flagman until just now. We are boarding the boat on Feb 3 in St. Lucia and heading out the next morning. We are hoping to make it from Marigot to Admiralty Bay in one...

Thanks again for the replies. I think I'll print this thread out and bring it down with me to refer to the names and places.

We were planning on stopping at Mustique, partly because the blues...

Re: Boat Boys - moorings and tipping

Thanks for the great reply Peregrine - really helps ease my concerns. And hearing your description of the beach BBQs is making me hungry too. Sounds like based on what you described (and any...

Re: Boat Boys - moorings and tipping

This post is very apropos for me as we are heading down in a few weeks for a St. Lucia to Grenada charter. My two biggest concerns are: 1- that it might be very crowded and anchoring/mooring will be...

Re: Ideas for Charter if BVIs don't work out

I think you're right about that. We booked a Windward charter a few months ago and there was plenty of availability. When I looked again just a few days ago there were barely any boats available. ...

Re: St. Thomas Vs Tortola Charter Departure/Return

All good advice here. We recently chartered out of Puerto Rico and sailed to the BVIs and back. We checked in at West End and customs didn't ask about food - just the typical weapons and drug...

After chartering in the Virgin Islands and around the Caribbean for the past 15 years I think the time has come to check out the Med. Our final box to tick in the Caribbean is the Windwards and I...

Re: 7 Day Charter - Grenada to St. Vincent & back... - Can it be done comfortably?

I've been keeping an eye on this thread as my family of five hopes to sail the Grenadines next Februaryish. I've gleaned some good advice here in terms of where to go and what to skip. Hope you...

Re: Anyone know of ASA 114 Classes for 2017?

If you want to fly to Seattle, Puget Sound Sailing is doing a 114 class this June for $875. I took that class through them a few years ago before my first cat charter. A cat isn't too terribly...

Re: Bareboat Charter Near Cancun?

Well, I gave in and spent a week in a house in Akumal. Wasn't the worst week ever but I would have much preferred to be on a boat somewhere. It was a big house with a chef but I'm more of a DIY guy...

Re: What to see in the Virgin Islands?

If you want to get away from the crowds (and charter crowds in particular) the Spanish Virgins (SVI) might be a worthwhile side trip. Great beaches and people and not nearly as crowded as the...
