In reality I agree as we all need to do our part to protect the environment so if the biodegradability of 2 stroke oil reduces harm to environment compared to any other oil that I say...

Both previous replies are right in my book. Yes we did only use normal oil years ago.
I have used detergent diesel oils --- Right down to ATF oil for gearboxes without any bad effects on motorbikes...
