Re: Yanmar 2GM20 - Sea Water Cooled

Where are you located? I have the same Hitachi in Tampa, FL cheap. It came with the boat as a spare but the boat has a different mount.

Re: Does this seem right?

500 AH flooded lead acid batteries is 250 AH usable. As said above, find out how much you actually use.

How is the insulation on the fridge? May be better to add more insulation than charging...

Re: Boating Marco Island to Key West

Florida Bay has had some of the worst weather I've found in 20 years going to the Keys. Of course I'm slow so takes a long day/night. Lots of t-storms. In addition to crab pots watch out for...

Re: Condensation And Smell Under Mattress

Perma-white paint (Lowes) works very well. I used it on all the lockers/compartments on my cat. You think you will still need ail space under the bed.

Re: Jeanneau drop keel stuck

When you say swimmer, do you mean holding breath? Hire a diver, lots less than a haulout. They can take time, work on it. Try a metal flat with a bend at the end to get above the tip and pull. Or...

Re: What type of switch do I need?

Positive and negative have to be on opposite sides of the device or nothing happens. I think what you are calling the negative is actually the positive from the power source and you just want to...

Re: What's required to crew?

In many sailing areas, there is a singles sailing club. These clubs match a skipper with crew, seems like a perfect fit for you. Except if you are in Indiana the closest may be Chicago? Try an...

Re: Sail Repair in South Florida (both coasts)

Keith at Advanced Sails in St Pete. Now farms out new sails but still does his own repairs. I've used him for decades. 727-896-7245.

Re: To isolate or not to isolate... that is question

Back when I was first building a bank of more than one battery, I read about a battery failing. The other batteries tried to pump every amp they had into the failed battery. The result wasn't pretty....

Re: Lagoon escape hatches, the questions i've always wanted to ask

IIRC, the underbridge escape hatches are in case of fire, not capsizing. EU regs call for escape available from every compartment.

Re: Replacing all Thru Hauls

Why are there 14 holes in the hull?

I would start by glassing in 8 or 10 of them. But that's just me.

Re: Genoa car moving backwards under load

Per Suijin's idea, turn them around. The sheave should face the sail, the plunger at the rear. At least mine have always been that way, but then I've never had a car with side rollers either. Can't...

Re: Strange Outboard Overheating Problem

As I understand it, flushing from the port on the block does not do anything with/to the impeller. Ear muffs are a pain but at least the whole system gets flushed. I run the dinghy motor in a bucket.

Re: Non Yanmar coolant ok?

The mechanic for the Yanmar distributor said not to use the "green stuff", only red or orange. It's worked for me.

Re: Help for a non boater

Consider hiring a "marine surveyor". That's an expert who can tell you all about the boat and what is right or wrong with it, and he/she works for you, not a broker or buyer.

A quick look would...

Re: St. Pete FL area - Decent priced marina for Catamaran

Check out St Pete or Sarasota mooring fields. Much less if you don't need to be tied to a dock and plugged in. And you won't need air conditioning in Jan and Feb.
