Re: Passage south from Chesapeake. How late can you leave?

Pay attention to the ever changing Bahamian entry requirements. They aren’t fooling around!

Re: Certifications or Licensing for insurance

Yes it helps. But then I have a 500 ton sail endorsement on a masters license that I have had for 38 years.

Re: Boat Size For Single Handle Sailing

Lots of good advice here. Mine is to take your sailing classes first while bumming rides on as many different boats as you can. THEN and only then think about buying something.

Re: Not under command signal and Robot Boats

Restricted in ability to maneuver doesn’t seem correct as the thing is not actually restricted. I’m a vote for needing another category

Re: CT Yacht advice please

They look good but it stops there. They don’t call them leaky teakys for no reason. Most have wooden spars. If you are into cosmetic maintenance to have a good looking dock queen then one may suit...

Re: Decadence

When I was playing with big boats several of the Captains came up with two new ways to race the boats. #1 was to empty the ice makers. Then the first one to make a frozen margarita was the winner. ...

Re: An outboard push a benetau 42?

I think it would be cheaper to fix the diesel. That is too much boat for an outboard. Besides that you would be lowering the resale value of the boat.

Re: The case for multiple small inverters

Good one! I was thinking about something along those lines when I saw your posts. If the inverter is off, how would the fridge get the power to send a signal to the inverter to turn on?

Re: Is my live aboard dream possible?

Budget wise I think you are fine. Boat choice is a different story. That size Hat is going to eat you up in dockage and fuel. Chances are it will have 92 series Detroitís which are not the best...

Re: Bahamas Cell Phone

Your first mistake was dealing with BTC. Horrible dishonest outfit! Alive is great! They give you a free SIM card and all you have to do is top up, either online or at any local store. Your...

Re: Long Island Sound or Hudson River?

I second Muaddib, too much fast commercial traffic, wakes and current in the Hudson. The sound is much more sail friendly.

Re: Aluminium hull teak deck

We always bedded the teak down then screwed directly to the aluminum deck plate. Teak was plugged, planks caulked the everything was sanded.

Re: Atomic 4 for sailboat on the Great Loop?

The Atomic 4 will be fine for the loop. Trying to get an Irwin 32 to the Caribbean is a totally different story. Not something I would want to suffer through.

Re: Anybody recognize this garboard?

That is not a garboard! Garboard is the first plank next to the keel. Your photo looks like a common drain plug for a dinghy

Not to derail the thread but I suggest you sail that particular boat in both heavy and light air before committing.

Re: Help me with an out of state purchase private purchase with a loan

You would be better off asking these questions to whatever institution you plan on getting the loan through. Also are you using a documentation service, if so,ask them.

Re: Foreign Country Car Rental Insurance
