SeaLife, Endeavour Ketch 43 has the generator exhaust on the port side midships. We don't run the gen when heeling to port and the exhaust is under water.
The danger is when shutting the gen off...

I have a fresh fuel filter, and I shone a light through both my Racor filters, they looked clear and clean, but I will change them.
Debris stirred up could be, air makes sense too.

Stopped suddenly, started after turning without hickups, but took holding starter longer than normal, about 10 seconds.

In rough bumpy seas motorsailing my Yanmar 4JH4-TE suddenly stopped. I started after a few seconds. It stopped again after a minute. I waited 2 minutes and started again, and it worked ever since....
