Re: Your First BVI Charter

Did the boat you where on have a lot of solar? Did it have refrigeration? By sloppy math I’m coming up with about 14 hours of engine time on 7 gallons of fuel. That’s about an hour a day. It...

Re: Any advice sailing St. Croix to Vieques?

Alyeska I think that is a wise plan. I only go to Vieques when I'm paid to do so and then I stay within site of the dinghy while others enjoy the spectacular Biobay. There are some nice beaches in...

Re: Customs&Procedere going from BVI to USVI and back by charter boat

Just an update for you. The bargain of St John moorings is no more. Current prices are $26 per night/ 1/2 that with a Golden Age card.

Re: Customs&Procedere going from BVI to USVI and back by charter boat

I went back and read my two responses to this thread. I don't see where I said it "would" be rough. I believe I said I wouldn't go there personally in less then settled conditions with a good...

Re: Customs&Procedere going from BVI to USVI and back by charter boat

I'm sorry, I got this thread mixed up with another in which the poster had hired a Capt. I was thinking "You hired a Capt and they don't know the standard procedures? Find a new Capt!"

Enjoy your...

Re: Customs&Procedere going from BVI to USVI and back by charter boat

In order of your post.

There is no need to clear out of the US to return to the BVI but your charter Capt will, or had better, know that.

The order of events is:
Clear out of BVI
Clear into...

Re: Balmar ARS-5 failure

I just replaced a 8 year old ARS-5 on a boat I manage that has a 100 amp Balmar alternator. The reason I replaced it was because the tach output wasn't working and the owner wanted it to. When I went...

Re: Royal Cape Catamarans

There are quite a few of those in my area being used as crewed charter boats. I'm told they are roomy and comfortable but don't sail particularly well. They seem a good fit for the charter market.

Re: Leaving the USA

I've never had an issue getting one when departing St Thomas for Sint Maarten. I've also never had an issue asking for a supervisor if the initial contact person is clueless!!

Antigua v. SVI bareboat

If you are asking about the SVI you will find an incredibly low key sailing area with a nice mix of restaurants and isolated bays. The only downside is that you need to understand there are no...

Re: Newly Enforced BVI Rules & Regulations

I heard the same thing. It would seem making it so expensive and cumbersome is part of the plan to make hiring locals more attractive.

Re: Moorings 3900: is this as good as it gets?

Well I took out hull #2 for probably the first charter on a Saba in North America on Cuvée in December of 2014. The owner pops in here from time to time. Cuvée was at the Annapolis boat show...

Sailing USVI to Spanish VI

I tend to agree with Justa rebel comments. I've made at least 10 trips to Vieques. A few on my own boat with friends to see the bio bay. The majority of the trips were as skipper on charter boats....

Newbie questions re: meals/provisioning of charters
