Re: Leaving dinghy on mooring for weeks at a time...

Self bailing dingy like the Angler 8. It is easy to convert a john boat to self bailing by raising the floor above water line. Cover it if worrying about wind blown debris, but it doesn't have to be...

Re: How to anchor a dinghy off a beach?

As Jammer described is how we anchor our dingy with one exception. I have a small cable attached to the stern that I lock at shore. I also use non floating line so it can sink below any curious dingy...

Re: How to anchor a dinghy off a beach?

We do it all the time, mostly to keep our dingy just enough out to make it not so easy to rummage through. Haven't tried it in seas that I could surf in, mostly 1 ft chop or smaller.

Re: Company in Fla, selling Battery operated A/C ? Anybody have any knowledge

I looked at the completely enclosed golf carts being offered with AC. Not interested in the golf cart just the battery powered AC. Salesman said it worked very well and would be able to contend with...

Re: Mercury or Tohatsu outboard motor?

I have an older 8 hp merc that I use daily for the last 14 ,15 years. The thing that I really like about it is the twist throttle and shifter combo. Let's you keep one hand for you and one hand for...

Re: Moving lines to cockpit

Need to be aware of the increase of friction at every turn, I was very surprised. Then to purchase the proper blocks was an unexpected cost. Still go to the mast to raise the main. It isn't the same...

Re: Chucking the diesel?

Found a formula for hp per weight on sailboats. Breaks down to 1 hp per 500 lb. This is for "normal" conditions. Boat design, condition of bottom, ect. need to be taken in account. Worked out for my...

Re: RV After Cruising???

The parks that have had the US Corp of Engineers do any work for that park qualify for the senior discount. Even if they are state parks or campgrounds. The senior discount is about 50 percent,...

Re: repowering my sailboat- engine selection

You mentioned making a "killer profit" on your past boats. If that is of high importance to you, then by all means install a diesel. For simple boating I would install a newer 15 - 20 hp 4 stroke...

Re: Solar powered vents - Nicro

I use the small computer fans. Around $5.00 US and last ? Of the 6 I have mounted through out the boat 2 years ago, all are still working. They are all reclaimed, so I don't how old they are. They...

Re: Would you keep an extra main, or an extra jib?

I would use the old sails till they are totally used up. If I had to choose, I would use the main for other projects. I used my old main for an anchor sail. Lasted several years before the uv...

Re: Fort Lauderdale/Miami info- where to sail a small boat?

I seem to recall the marina at Black Point has/had a fenced yard for small sail boats to leave their masts up. They also have a police presence to keep weekend boat ramp antics under control. Run by...

Re: windlass chain and rope ?

I'm not sure, I think 3/8 chain weight is 1 1/2 lb per ft. So 100 ft might be 150 lbs plus 44 lbs of anchor plus the weight of the 5/8 line. All up front ? Also it is possible your windlass,...
