Re: Seasickness AFTER Hyoscine/Scopoderm patch?

Seasickness is complex and is not purely a physiological response.. An observation I have is that the more responsibility /involvement you have in the boat you are on the less likely you are to be...

Re: Bifacial 405W Monocrystalline Solar Panel

@redneckrob thanks for persisting in your scientific factual discussion on this topic. Reading this has improved my understanding of the pros and cons of bifacial panels. The time you spent has...

Re: Jump start unit as emergency power source

Thanks for response, the portable power option would tick some of the boxes but I'm not aware of any that are also suitable for jump starting a diesel?

Jump start unit as emergency power source

Have been considering options to set up an emergency power source for radio transmission and possibly lights, bilge pump etc in case my main battery bank (which is under the saloon sole) gets...

Re: Aquadrive Thrust Bearing: Warm and Whistling

Are you able to get a good shot of it with an IR Thermometer? Are you checking it from the forward end or aft end. (i.e. the end with the CV Joints or the Shaft End)[/QUOTE]

Re: Aquadrive thrust Bearing - your operating temp?

The thrust is roller bearing protected by lip seals. Presumably it was lubricated on assembly but I cannot confirm this without complete disassembly. With the shaft disconnected it turns smoothly...

Re: Aquadrive Thrust Bearing: Warm and Whistling

Thanks for your response,

The main bearing carrier is 'warm' but the flange on the shaft (the bit thats spinning) cannot be checked by hand unless the gearbox is put in neutral and the shaft...

Re: Aquadrive thrust Bearing - your operating temp?

The hottest part of the unit is the periphery of the thrust that mounts on the shaft. The temperature gradually decreases in toward the shaft and along the...

Aquadrive thrust Bearing - your operating temp?

I have an Aquadrive assembly in my drivetrain and the thrust bearing measures 80-90deg C (176-194 deg F) while motoring at cruising speed.

We have removed the thrust assembly and the bearing...

Re: Aquadrive Thrust Bearing: Warm and Whistling

Eventually we removed the unit to inspect. Bearing was silky smooth, took into local agent, compared to rebuilt unit off the shelf. Felt very similar. So we reinstalled. Interestingly temperature...

Re: USB-C Charging Laptop

@jack4566 how efficient is the 12 charger? Presumably it is stepping up the voltage from 12 to 18 when charging at 65watts. Also are you charging a laptop with only 65watts? What make / model works...

Re: Number one way for Preserving eggs.

Back in the early 80's cruisers we knew used wax. When we called in St Helena they were so used to cruisers heading off on the long leg to the Caribbean or Azores that you could buy them pre-waxed.

Re: Yamaha 15hp Enduro 2-Stroke Overheating ?!?!

When you have it all back together with a new impellor you should have a telltale jetting water and if it has one (and as soon as up to temp) water flowing out the larger hole in the back of the leg...
