Re: Old engines little used

My two cents:

I would NOT even attempt to crank the engine if it has been sitting for three years idle on the hard. I would fear internal corrosion in the cylinders.

I would remove the...

Re: 1985 tartan 34 shower drain troubleshooting help

Use a piece of VHF coax antenna cable as a snake. Computer Cat 5 cable may work as well. It is stiff yet flexible.

Using muriatic acid is insane. It is dangerous (the least) and can damage all...

Re: Standing rigging cost guesstimate

About $4K for a 30 ft Catalina with one upper and two lower shrouds each side plus fore & aft stays. New turnbuckles.

Not including crane fees and yard layup fees for mast if required..

Don't...

Re: Water in bilge and maybe keel

Often bilge water comes from outside rain water leaks (windows, loose deck fittings).

I would be more concerned with the oil...

This is the new DoorDash delivery service.

They now deliver fresh ducks right to your door or dockside.

It is called Duck Dash.

Re: Messenger Line to Halyard Join

My two bits for the whipping.

West marine sells the whipping twine at $8.00 a roll, more ($$) if you want the needle as well.

Re: Major prop walk in forward

Dumb question but maybe the yard installed the prop on backwards. (??)

The shaft is tapered, but the taper is slight.

The yard may have just slapped it on, torqued down the retaining nut and...

Re: The Universal M25 is winning the battle

To free up the piston rings, I would pull the injectors and pour low viscosity oil into the cylinders through the injector ports (Marvel mystery oil / Kroil oil / trans fluid) then let it sit for a...

Re: Bad Review of Dream Yacht Charters

I think a lot of these charter companies have difficulties retaining competent people.

So they hire misfits to "maintain" the boats (or the management/ actual boat owners do not want to spend the...

Re: Modifying a mini split A/C with marine condenser?

I would question whether the house unit would stand up to a contstant salt air environment, and not be eaten alive in a season or two.

This is what happens when people install RV units on their...

Re: Universal diesel surging problem in my sailboat

When you set the throttle on the diesel engine, you are actually setting an engine "Speed" for the motor to regulate at.

If the speed drops below the set speed, the governor system , through...

Re: how much should this worry me

On the first pic of the corroded thru-hulls, to me (IMHO) it looks like salt water corrosion on the bronze (brass?) fittings. Maybe the boat had some salt water in this area at one time. Note the...

You want to keep the loop...

Re: The Universal M25 is winning the battle

Learning things about Universal diesels. The M25 is a different bore and stroke than the M25xp. The Kubota dealer wants to know the tractor model and engine serial number.[/QUOTE]

It is a Kubota...
