I had two speaker holes that I repurposed with Beckson Stowaway Deck Access PPlats with Storage Bag. Good place for misc stuff like sun screen, signal horn etc

To make matters worse, Catalina runs the charging circuit from the alternator to the panel then to the batteries using generally undersized wire.

I would pay attention to it. There will be a gasket under the flange to replace. PB Blaster to loosen will help. The most common place for failure is where the cooling water injects and is hidden...
