Re: Need input from epoxy experts

I prefer to wet set or to wait and sand if It looses tackiness.

I try work to standards that alleviate my future worry but

not everything is critical and sometimes I even use (whisper)...

Re: Solar panel, MPPT, Battery switching

A "shorted" panel in a large parallel system could conduct the current from

the other panels overloading the wiring with which the panel is built.

As detailed

Re: Solar panel, MPPT, Battery switching

[QUOTE=Paul Elliott;3642836]I don't get it -- why would you ever use a wire that couldn't safely carry the full panel current? Isc on a panel isn't *that* much greater than Imp.

I think my...

Re: Solar panel, MPPT, Battery switching

I remember something like

If the short circuit capacity of the panels is more than the line capacity

a breaker or fuse should be installed between panels and controller.

If the short...

Re: Even Modern anchors can Act Up

That's why we usually use a "Bahamian" style method with a Danforth type.

That which does not trip need not re set

....because I only need the SHOCK and AWE of my boat not being where I...

Re: Very Shallow Draft Boats <3 feet

Seaward (Hake Yachts) made a couple retractable keel offerings

A 32' and a 26' from memory but also some shoal draft fixed and maybe shoal with a board. All were trailerable.

Re: Even Modern anchors can Act Up

Well all's well that ends well.

When I read the post title I thought surely a 180 degree shift produced a

giant persistent clump of whatnot rendering the "modern" anchor impotent.

I have...

Re: Victron 75/15 Solar Controller Mounting

Thanks for the photo.

Wondering if you used the additional battery temperature sensors?

Re: Victron 75/15 Solar Controller Mounting

When I devised a panel for our previous 26'

I mounted it on Starboard plastic. It is flammable.

If memory serves, the combustion temp of Starboard is higher than plywood.

Additionally I...

Re: Victron Controller with Bluetooth

Can't remember the specifics but for some reason I had to do a reset of the password at one point on the 26'.

The controller ID# was located on the back of the unit.

Was kind of a pita to...

Re: Victron Controller with Bluetooth

We ( actually I, wife was totally indifferent) liked it enough on our 26' to purchase a larger capacity one for the 33'.

Occasional wonkiness outweighed by an abundance of useful information.

Re: 9.9hp outboard "upgraded" to 15hp?

Did exactly that with our 2009 15FCESH.

As mentioned it depends entirely on the model.

Bought a cheaper after market carb online for under a hundred bucks.

If it lasts 3yrs it's value...

Re: Best knot to tie to a loop under pressure

Uncertain of your application but sometime a sheet bend (or double)

or joining with a bowline is better to make a longer line from two.

Unless you need mechanical leverage or adjustability at...

Re: When to recore the deck and options?

No soft spots and it's dry?

You could just fill the core void locally with epoxy / colloidal silica.

Using an epoxy syringe can help. I load the syringe by using a sandwich bag

with a...

Re: ✅ What is the best way to clean a Dacron mainsail? ✅

We've used the newer high efficiency (HE) laundry detergents and sometimes

a little bleach. We formerly used 20 Mule Team Borax but the HE stuff rinses

sooo very easily.

If you're on...

Re: How to clean this with a picture?

For small spots we've used bleach but when we're brightening gel coat

we use a weak solution of oxalic acid.

Often listed as wood bleach and found in crystal form at home supply stores.

The marine CV's listed by Pete7 look like a viable option with the addition

of the load bearing hull attachments specified.

Re: Hulls split down the middle

Sorry bout your boat . Hope it ends well.

It sure looks like a seam in the photos.

The yard I've been using has the owner mark the lift points to mitigate their risk.

Re: Anyone carry self-fusing tape?

I've found that on some longer term applications...

Harbourtown Marina is inside the turning basin with air draft unlimited. Some larger...

+1 on twisting.

In the photo the lifeline does not appear overtight but check there first. I've had that issue with the old style.

Sometimes a new component can stick due to minor imperfections...

Re: Is Butyl Tape Still Recommended??
