Re: B&G vulcan radar overlay

No, you need a heading sensor that updates 10 times per second (10Hz). Most autopilots have that same requirement so if it’s on the same nmea network, you’re good to go.

I use a Maretron and...

Re: What’s Your Favorite Non-Skid Deck Paint These Days?

Re: Groceries: How do you get them to the boat?

We do a lot of freezing as well, mostly product that don’t can well. The pictures show a creamy curry sauce, but guacamole is even more successful. For this we use a chamber vacuum which allows...

Re: Groceries: How do you get them to the boat?

Pretty sure they never had Dutch pancakes so no, it isn’t available anywhere outside Holland apart for some expat specialty shops.

Also, commercial mixes always have genetically modified corn...

Re: Groceries: How do you get them to the boat?

Of course but we never managed to get fresh fruit and bacon into the mix package. We now use canned fruit or jam and bacon from the freezer :thumb:

Re: Groceries: How do you get them to the boat?

Just some examples of what I wrote about before.

Example: the pancake mix only needs water as milk, butter, eggs etc. are all in there already

Re: Thoughts on ketches and yawls

Oh I agree that a ketch looks much better… I mean, Jedi is a ketch as well.

Also, people wrote about yawls… I never owned one nor sailed on one so I have no direct experience at all. They may well...

Re: Thoughts on ketches and yawls

I agree with you that a 37’ ketch can do all that… but a 37’ cutter can do all that with much less rigging and while being faster as well. So it’s not just the speed, it’s having more speed in...

Re: Thoughts on ketches and yawls

Yes, I should have been more specific, let me rephrase it:

For modern designs, a ketch only starts making sense at 50’ and up because for smaller boats a cutter beats them at every point of sail...

Re: Groceries: How do you get them to the boat?

For sprouting we love the Asian style “taugee” which is from Mung beans. We developed a very handy system for use aboard back in 2012, using some ziplock containers. I’m pretty sure someone on this...

Re: Questions re: B&G Zeus integration w/ Ipad app

I strongly recommend to create a “boat-wifi” system that carries all your instruments data: GPS, depth, speed, wind, AIS, heading etc. and do this independent from any of the normal systems, i.e....

Re: Batteries not holding Voltage

AGM batteries are a good choice for starting batteries. When a large solar array gets the house bank in float every day, AGM can work well for house battery as well.

AGM loves float charge phase....

Re: Groceries: How do you get them to the boat?

The powdered eggs that I linked to earlier are high quality and have a price tag to match, but I was serious when I wrote you can’t tell them from fresh eggs for scrambled eggs or omelette.

We...

Re: Best hard bottom paint to be cleaned as needed

We switched from Islands 44 to Micron 66 and it works just as well for the first year. Years 2-3 were okay as well, but not as good as Islands 44.

With Islands 44 we only had to start cleaning the...

Re: Groceries: How do you get them to the boat?

Yes they do but as I wrote, they wash them. People in the Us don’t want to see feathers and poop on their eggs

Re: Groceries: How do you get them to the boat?

Yes, but weeks is different than a full year which is what was claimed. I am pretty sure it will be spoiled beyond belief after a year.

Re: Groceries: How do you get them to the boat?

A year? Please add a citation. Every hit on Google says 2 weeks, longer if you refrigerate them.

If you want to keep farm fresh unwashed and unrefrigerated eggs then you need to put them in...

Re: Thoughts on ketches and yawls

We have a cutter stay and staysail as well. While testing it we found it doesn’t really work at anything less than 25kts wind. It does balance with double reefed main and mizzen; I haven’t tried it...
