Re: Waterless coolant anybody?

Thanks everyone. I'd just never heard of such a thing. The brand I was looking at wasn't Evans, but Azure Marine coolant. They claims it prolongs engine life...

Waterless coolant anybody?

Hello
Does anyone have any experience of using waterless coolant. Apparently it doesn't vaporise and it's environmentally cleaner.
Popular with older engines

Will it harm a marine diesel?

Re: Knife Attack in Las Palmas / Cannary Islands

Crime rates have been falling, that's for all sorts of crime, and you don't have to rely on government statistics alone. There are general surveys of whether people have been affected by crime that...

Re: Knife Attack in Las Palmas / Cannary Islands

That's just weird. Where did all the Brits go? They're still here, believe me! Millions have come from elsewhere, but they're a minority. That's why we call them minorities...

Re: Knife Attack in Las Palmas / Cannary Islands

Fightening though these stories are, the perception of crime is routinely higher than the actual crime rates. In Europe, crime rates have been falling for years (and here in the UK).

Coolant pressure test kit for Yanmar 3GM30F

Hello. Unfortunately I need to trace a coolant (freshwater) leak, and for that I bought a 'universal' pressure tester on eBay. All the kits on Ebay say 'universal' which means they include caps for a...

Hello. Unfortunately I need to trace a coolant (freshwater) leak, and for that I need a pressure tester. All the ones I see on Ebay say 'universal' which means they include caps for a whole range of...

Re: Ways solo sail into slip safely

Agree this book is excellent. I used to use the method of a loop on a central cleat. But I learned a better method - you loop a line from an aft cleat, over to the central cleat and back to where...

I've had good service from Bottomline Marine, on the IoM:

They ship internationally too

Re: Should you tilt your outboard motor out of water between uses?

You may be interested to learn that at the historic boat float in Dartmouth, boats may tilt their outboards, but are required to tie a bucket on them!

Re: steering system - chain and wire

Thank you all, so much. Yes, I plan to replace both chain and wires immediately. I'll check the wheel bearings at the same time. Maybe then able to do some gentle manoeuvring in the river before...

Re: steering system - chain and wire

Thanks Oohla
Edson seem to have loads of useful information on their websites, an Plastimo doesn't! Their range of products is so much wider.
I'm going to have find a Plastimo agent in the UK to...

Re: steering system - chain and wire

Thanks for all this.
Godshalk - All I can see looks fine except the chain... But you've convinced me I need to remove the panelling and covers to see under the pedestal and check those pulleys...

Re: steering system - chain and wire

Thanks Wholybee,
I've begun to explore that option, but Edson Marine don't seem to operate in the UK. There are bits and pieces on eBay, but I'll need compatibility. I'm really looking for the...

Re: steering system - chain and wire

Thanks for your responses. I haven't taken the pedestal completely apart (yet). I'd need to get under the deck and that's inaccessible. I don't have the Edson system, but have a Plastimo pedestal. I...

Re: steering system - chain and wire

I watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=270dLsfbR3M&t=105s and about 7 minutes in, he says replace the chain every 7-10 years. Mine clearly has not been lubricated/cleaned as much as recommended.

steering system - chain and wire

Hello all. Apparently the steering system's chain and wire should be replaced every 10 years, but I've not had a boat that long. My chain definitely needs replacing (don't you think!), but the wires...

Re: Ticket for no whistle in dinghy??

I learned that most drownings (in the UK) are not when sailing, but when using the dinghy. Our harbour subsidises a yacht taxi service to discourage use of dinghies. I couldn't find the UK...

Re: Ticket for no whistle in dinghy??

As a Brit, I'm fascinated by this whole thread. Starting with 'local water police' - what are they? You have them in the US? I've seen them in Greece, where they keep boats from anchoring near family...

Re: Corona pandemic, positively affects boat sales

People dump things when they can't afford them any longer. I am sure there are a lot of marinas seeing non payment for slips these days. Hard question...do I put food on the table or do I make my...
