Re: Advice for ports sailing south along the east coast.

I live and boat (sail and power) here in beautiful Amelia Island, which has the lovely Fernandina Beach city on the intercostal. The downtown is historical and friendly. John Grishahm lives here and...

I'm 65, lightly handicapped but am looking for a sloop in the 30 to 34 foot range for coastal cruising. Near single hand. I've had power boats since I was a teenager but only started sailing 5 years...

We're in NW Washington state on the Staits of Juan de Fuca. We are moving somewhere on the 19th. We need to buy a house and a boat in the next few months. Florida maybe. We lived in West Palm Beach...

Re: I had a boat, now I have a hole - in my head.

I almost hate to reactivate this (I'm the op) but I am starting to wonder if something is wrong with me. I am becoming depressed about not having my (read any) boat.

It may be part of the stay at...

Re: SSB Radio at home?

Thanks everyone for the excellent advice. My childhood friends father was a ham operator, k4sdn, and was a great fellow. "What do you hear from Australia, Mr. Ray?"

I currently don't own a boat...

Re: SSB Radio at home?

Thanks, I briefly tried one of the online sites and that serves the purposes of learning to listen. I also want the physical radio, antenna, power supply, etc. for off grid use. It's hard to censor...

SSB Radio at home?

I've had an interest in radios since my teenage days. I even took ham classes but got hurt before I could finish. Anyway, what I am thinking about is to buy a SSB radio with some type of anntenea...

Re: Jupiter Inlet Question

Wow, something I actually know about. I used to run my 20 cuddy cabin in and out of both Jupiter and lake Worth inlets most weekends. Both can be dangerous to deadly BUT take the usual cautions, the...

Re: I had a boat, now I have a hole - in my head.

Maybe. My wife wants to explore NC house opportunity but I wanted warmer water. We both like to scuba dive. At this point, I miss my boat so bad I've gone down to the marina and bailed a buddies...

Re: I had a boat, now I have a hole - in my head.

The cruising up here is world class, in my limited experience. 100's of islands, snow covered mountains, clean water, and fantastic summer weather. There's a reason Oprah has a home on Orcas Island....

Re: I had a boat, now I have a hole - in my head.

Thanks Ann, after I posted that I felt a little silly, but I still think of her. I was ALWAYS thinking about her future, what she needed, etc. Now, that's someone else's job. My wife says we should...

I had a boat, now I have a hole - in my head.

We are moving from the PNW to the SE as soon as this virus thing settles down. I had to sell my Haida 26 and now I have this place in my mind where she should be. I should be able to go mess around...

Re: Iím a new boat owner 09 Hunter 33

Just for fun, I'll go first.

Yikes. Do not assume you will take possession of the boat or anything else until the survey and sea trials are done. There are about a thousand things that can kill a...

Re: Wife and I want a life on a boat - how can we do this fairly efficient

Yeah, I guess my canvas underwear is showing. ( Is that still in style?) Plus, I spoke based on maybe a few dozen hours on a trawler vs ??? under sail.

I live on a hill overlooking the two ways...

Re: Wife and I want a life on a boat - how can we do this fairly efficient

For me, the cost of traveling to see the boat would be money well spent. Photos lie. Statements in an ad are often optimistic or from a owners memory. You will likely hear that you can get a survey...

This guy makes me feel sorry for the rescue staff who may risk their lives (if he keeps on like this). There is no excuse for this behavior. No wonder he sails alone. Who in their right mind would...

Stop by Sequim Bay and say hello. We'll take you and the dog out to eat or you guys can spend a few days waiting for better weather. Some acquaintances on a J32 usually do this trip every summer and...
