Disabled vessel?

This story (https://chesapeakebaymagazine.com/sailor-rescued-in-rough-conditions-at-mouth-of-bay/) says the Coast Guard "rescued him from the disabled vessel." However, it looks like the sails are...

Re: Worth changing the stern?

Did any of the folks in this thread see this project on Facebook? He added a huge "caboose" to an existing vessel. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1427652890847554/user/100000160014922

Re: PLB Saves Solo Sailor

I've been looking at PLB options and concluded that a solo sailor needs both EPIRB and AIS/DSC devices. AIS/DSC could help if there are nearby vessels. EPIRB if there's a chance of surviving until...

Fuel funnel / filter recommendation

I fuel up with a 5 gallon jug at my marina and keep the jug full and below deck just in case I need a day tank. My diesel usually comes from a high-volume station nearby and I've been using a regular...

US base for cruising Bahamas / Caribbean?

Here's my current thinking. Would love your feedback!

I want to start spending at least 1-3 winter months living aboard in SE FL and cruising the Bahamas. In a year or two I would live aboard full...

Re: Any ideas what this is for???

Could the outer ends be attachment points for the tack of an asymmetrical? Perhaps a way to get it ahead of the forestay and outside of the pulpit? Attach tack to port or starboard end depending on...

Re: one year live aboard

Curious why you need a fin keel? Assuming full keel draft is within reason, what's the disadvantage? I have a 4ft full keel with...

Re: aquamap charts gone after iOS14 update

My ipads are about that old.

On my iPads, in order to add a route I create in GEC, I need to save it to my desktop, transfer it to my iOS device by email/sms/etc., and open the GPX in AquaMap. I...

aquamap charts gone after iOS14 update

Anyone else lose their charts after updating iPhone to iOS14?

Also getting lots of non-fatal errors when trying to import routes from GEC into iPhone.

They are the same kind of errors I get...

Re: Any safety issues with this dingy?

Assuming the cockpit area is deep enough -- front to back -- why not rest it on the gunnels? Use 2x4s to protect the glass and gelcoat and shape them to match the hull. Add a couple of right-height...

AquaMap: Import route WITHOUT GEC acct?

I have two older iPads and can't run the latest version of AquaMap. The app itself still works but I can't import route from my GEC acct.
Is there a way to add a GPX file directly into the AquaMap...

Re: Anyone use Deks Olje

I'm definitely not doing varnish. In fact, I'm a bit mad at myself for even trying sealers!

I'm leaving the teak decks alone. Cleaned them with ammonia and a scotch pad and they looked good, even...

Trying Semco + Teakguard

I'll try Semco Natural and TeakGuard and share my observations on color. Definitely don't like darkness of Deks Olje but maybe it will lighten as it ages. I'll leave it where I used it and tryt...

Re: Anyone use Deks Olje

I did not bleach it but it was freshly cleaned with ammonia and freshly sanded to a natural gold tint. I want to keep the gold tone but the Deks Olje made it brown.

Deks Olje too dark... more natural alternative?

I tried Deks Olje on the teak trim under my winches and it's too dark.

I'm looking for a sealer that most closely preserves the color of freshly sanded teak.

Considering Semco but can't...
