Re: How to choose a dinghy

I've been kicking around down here for 15 years. Bigger is alway better in my books. I carry an 11' foot inflatable with a Yamie 15. That 15 is my auxiliary diesel. And I use it as a tug boat to push...

4hp Merc. Adding external tank

Hello yachties…
I have a Mercury 4hp 2-stroke, about a year old, and want to convert from the internal gas tank to an external tank. I’ve been on the Mercury site and can’t make ‘heads nor tails’...

Re: Controller dead, can I connect solar panel direct?

Thanks everyone. Yes, i get 20 volts off the panel in noonday sun. I'm watching carefully and the fans are running. If I get nervous, I plug in the computer.

So yes, working well and the new...

Re: Controller dead, can I connect solar panel direct?

That's great news... we are dying over here with the heat. I'll keep fans running (no problem), and monitor the batteries. New controller should arrive on the 24th. We can manage from there.

Much...

Controller dead, can I connect solar panel direct?

My year-old Outback controller bit the dust. Another on order: NOT Outback!

In the meantime, can I wire the panel directly to the battery posts with a fuse in place?

Thanks,
Bry

Re: Exhaust Carbon Deposits

More great info... Thank you, all...

Good news about the piping and might give that oven cleaner a try. Nothing to lose, right?

Re: Exhaust Carbon Deposits

Sounds like a dirty job.
But thanks all...
I was also concerned about the hoses and water-lift silencer. I'm not at a marina but at anchor down island. Jobs like this take on a whole new...

Exhaust Carbon Deposits

Just replacing my Exhaust Riser on my Volvo diesel and was surprised at the carbon build up. I assume the carbon deposits are throughout my system. N. Calder suggests in his book that the system be...

Well thank you, indimini, that's the best news I've had this week! So an inline, 3-amp fuse is all that is necessary?
Thank you so much...

Installing a wifi router

I just bought a TRENDnet AC2600 wifi router. I saw it was 12V DC so I figured it would be fine for the boat. But now realize that it has to be 12V – 3 amp. I’m not much of an electronics guy but I...

Re: Thinning 5200

Thanks everyone... and yeah, I agree that 5200 should be reserved for anything that you won't have to take apart, ie the deck to hull joint. When I worked at the PJ yard, I remember our guys using...

Thinning 5200

I'm lashing some D-rings to my stainless rigging. I was thinking of sealing the nylon line in 5200. But if I could thin the 5200 so it would soak into the lashings, so much the better.

Anyone know...

Gluing Hypalon (again)

Does anyone have the latest magical concoction for gluing hypalon? My leaks are small but persistent.

The glue they supply with the inflatable dries up in the tube. I have tried that automotive...

As a navy wife I long ago became accustom to to my husband calling a floor a deck, a wall a bulkhead and our bathroom the head. I was not even greatly surprised to receive messages of “well done”...

Re: Real Cruiser's Quiz: How do you stack up?

I just wanted to address the accusation that I, in some way, support animal abuse. This was in reference to my comment that if you have a noisy dog, someone will poison it.

Well dog lovers beware....

Re: Real Cruiser's Quiz: How do you stack up?

Here's another one: If you give money to the dock boys, you just perpetuate the problem. And don't think they won't steal your stuff, anyway.
