Re: Borrowing Stuff Without Permission

Borrowing another's dinghy (mine included) is OK provided it is promptly replaced where you found it and there is no damage, and it is stowed exactly as it was found as quickly as possible.

Some...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

Dude, you might want to read more thouroughly.

I have no intention of selling my stuff because I would only get pennies on the dollar, it's not worth it. My stuff was all bought new, I'm not...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

It would definitely be Relic's kin if there's any connection. He was pretty well into his years when I met him but he seemed like a much nicer guy than on the TV show.

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

My boat WAS in perfect shape until this hard impact. I am not a liveaboard.

TrentPieds logic is sound. I've spent (pardon the pun) boatloads of cash on my boat, having the rigging maintained,...

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

Definitively. I was heading to a mooring buoy in 60 knot winds and learned it didn't have a painter. Had to do a cowboy lasso knot in rough enough weather that I could barely find the buoy as it...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

That is a very interesting idea, I never thought of that. Cheap gas, cheap booze, cheap milk. I have no criminal record or conditions, no prior charges so it wouldn't be a problem getting the NEXUS.

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

I used to pay $300 every six months at my old YC. 6 hours from the city plus a ferry $300 is too much

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

Life aboard a sailboat, no matter what size, comes with some serious life changing decisions.

You will not be able to have "stuff". It will clutter up the boat and in many situations it will be...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

Honestly, I'd ideally park it in the Vancouver Lower Mainland. Being a sailboat with limited power, anywhere up the Fraser River is prohibitive, as getting back I'm fighting against the "mighty...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

Hahahaha. There's a picture somewhere of me with good old Relic. My mom had a picture of herself with the cop from the show too.

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

Im not upsetting anyone. So forget about that. I'm quite an amicable fellow.

I know nothing about moorage in Australia, so I can't comment on that.

In this area there is a dire shortage of...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

You are correct.

Uninsured, I have to just bite the bullet and repair it myself, which I have mostly completed, albeit there is more work to be done.

I dont think that they smoked my boat at...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

Yeah, I've met guys like that on the water. Mostly tug operators during the winter. Seems like they make all their money in the summer season and blow it all, then during the winter they are...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

I always get along with the neighbors. I find more that they just want this picture perfect view without any boats, but don't understand that if I had a briefcase stuffed with cash I still wouldn't...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

Its a Columbia. They are built like tanks. The glass is 3/4" thick.

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

Most sailboats aren't steel hulled; however I beleive whoever made the hard impact was in a steel hulled powerboat on a full plane.

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

It was a 9" hole through two hulls. I made it watertight so in a chop it wont take on water or moisture, using bondo. I do know a glass guy who is very experienced from my old yacht club, but...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

I managed to fix the hole for about $50. Still more work to do, money to spend to repair the inner hull, plus paint and color matching. If I paid someone to fix it it probably wouldn't clock in...

Re: Hit and run, hard impact

Boats still floating, I only have $2MM third party liability. No replacement or repair coverage.

Hit and run, hard impact

My boat was moored on a ball, suffered a hard impact. It was so hard that it flew the drawers all over the place and penetrated both inner and outer hulls. The hole was about 9" round diameter.

Re: Impromptu mooring buoy creation

Hahahaha I laughed pretty hard reading your post.

I might be off on the depth. Looking at the charts, zero chart datum about where I want to drop it is about 50 ft. A predicted king tide this...

Re: "Internetting your boat" HOWTO

It was WPA that was cracked, WPA2 is much stronger. Anything can be hacked with enough horsepower and time.

You are correct with regards to certain phones and data usage using mobile hotspot...

Re: Impromptu mooring buoy creation

If you do, then you know that there is no oil in the crankcase of a 2-cycle engine. This is a non-issue.
