Re: Critique of costs

I am curious by the wide range of estimates. Why would you consider both a 30' and a 75' boat?

I would start by figuring out what you want first, then research that option more closely.

Re: How much cash to retire?

Do some research on safe withdrawal rates (SWRs). 4% is assumed safe under all conditions for a 30 year horizon if all the saving are in a tax-advantaged account (an important caveat). I believe this...

Re: Panicking on new boat purchase

I am in a similar situation to the OP. I recently had an offer accepted. Survey is tomorrow.

This thread has been a godsend and was started at just the right time.

I have also been grappling...

Re: 40-47' Cat 2003- <$230k

Can you really get a Lagoon 440 or 450 for under $230K? That seems low even for a beaten-up charter boat.

Re: Storm jib attachment

Thanks for the photos.

Interesting setup. What do you with the furler when the staysail is not in use? Do you leave it attached to the jib halyard?

But in that case I guess the jib is not...

Re: Lagoon 570 Reviews Owners Version

Quite incredible, considering the displacement of the newer Lagoon 39 is 25,735
lbs.

Re: Catana 50

The Catana 50 is a much, much bigger boat than an Outremer 55. With that size boat it is worth asking yourself if it's too much boat - both to maintain and to handle.

IMO the two boats are not at...

Re: List of one and two person board games

Many board games have a "solo" mode, but I tend to find plahing board games solo unchallenging and unfullfilling.

Board games are great way to spend time with friends, but playing solo, or even as...

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

Where are they from? I thought the idea was that you are supposed to return to your country of origin? I believe most countries allow the return of their own citizens.

Re: Outremer 50 light early 2000s

I would go with an Outremer 55 over a 50. In addition to the longer waterline it also gives you more space for solar panels over the davits, and a higher carry capacity, which is low to begin with.

Re: Lagoon 77?

I think for this size boat, the upholstery is your least concern. The boat will need to be maintained by professionals, likely at a huge yearly cost. What those costs are I have no idea, but...

Re: California property and use tax on foreign flagged vessels

You have to pay both property and use tax unless you have owned and used the boat for 12+ months outside California before you bring it in, in which case you may not owe use tax.
