Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

No experience with them yet but have lurked on the car forums for quite a while and some of them have the batts for a long time without keeping them charged while they build thier cars and have not...

Re: Solar Panel GRID connection help

Bill
I had thought of that before but i don't have an inverter to try it. Would want to be a fairly good sinewave though.

Re: Solar Panel GRID connection help

Cat
The outback 80 is rated at 1KW input so suits me perfectly as i am using 960W. Be a bit small for u if u are going to put up the whole 1600W. Would have to use 2 of them.
What batts are u...

Re: Solar Panel GRID connection help

I was wondering the same so did a little research, but not exhaustive, on the grid connect inverters. Seems they need the presence of the grid to sync to and if not present they shut down. Back to...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

For anybody in Australia that is interested.
I am getting together a group buy for CALB 180A/H cells. Price will be about 20% discount. Up to nearly 4,000A/H @12v now. Order will be placed early Dec...

Re: DIY Research and Development

Gello
A hall efect sensor would be difficult, would be fine if the mast only rotated to a set point but it is totally variable to 360 degrees plus. An encoder disk won't work either as i have a...

Tassiebloke
I think the car and bike guys were the early adopters. They have sorted most of the problems and put the research into the public realm. Us boaties are the second wave

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

Terry
The main worry i have is with the alternators. I have seen them go seriously over voltage when the reg fails so i was thinking of a field disconnect if that happened either triggered by the...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

Small maths check. If your charging potential was 13.8 and one cell got to 4.8 then the other 3 would need to have an average of 3v each. That would be a huge imbalance. if the others were at 3.3v...

Re: DIY Research and Development

Wind over the bow is enough for me.
I was going to use an Airmar PB200 and a Maretron DSM250 for the display. The PB200 has a rate compass and calculates apparent that will need correcting. B&G use...

Re: Anyone Using a Clover Sunbook Full Sunlight-Viewable Notebook ?

John
Why not just get the screen, $200, and put it in any netbook. Thats what i will be doing to run Open CPN. They have a higher resolution version comming but don't say when.

13.8V Thanks for that, never seen anyone state what is the lowest voltage they need to accept a full charge rate.
I think Bill wants leave his existing L/A as they are and use the...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

Bill
I see better now what u are trying to achieve. 75V would be your open circuit voltage but it will fall as u draw more current from the panels. That gives u a max of 3.75V per cell, well below...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

Solar panels output voltage can vary quite a lot depending on load and illuminence, would need it's own regulator. In a mixed system it would be better to have 2 independent systems and a batt...

Did you ever do any more on the gps compass idea. Maybe as an add on to your arduino magnetic compass. I would love a Furuno SC 30 but the $ will mean it never happens

Re: LiFePo4 House Bank Using SmartHousePower BMS

Li-ion batteries are very well understood. The main problem seems to be that people cherry pick facts to support thier arguments either in support or against. There are many chemistries all with...
