Re: Bilge pump to pump out below waterline

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Beneteau, Jeanneau, Bavaria, Elan, etc. mass production boats that circumnavigate

Look at some of the wooden boats that were one sprung plank from disaster that made it around. Setting out, seamanship, and luck are huge factors, the boat matters of course but it is only a part of...

Re: This might not go well but here goes...

Use it as is and you will add adapt as you gain experience. PNW is pretty forgiving with mainly light air and good holding during normal cruising season. Get some cruising guides and see if you can...

Re: the SSB Radio You Never Use (Icom M802)

Good luck QOD my wife and I consider our HF radio a huge asset to our cruising lifestyle by connecting to the community. We see lots of boats with HF antennas and have never heard them on local nets...

Re: Don't need no stinkin' dinghy

Lots of different options for getting to shore, lots of different models on how often and where you use the boat. If you are smiling then you are doing it right.

Re: Weirdest things you've seen on the water.

We were motoring in the Northern Sea of Cortez and were stopped by 2 fin whales for 45 minutes while they swam next to and under the boat. We stopped and drifted till they left. Whales are cool in...

Re: Adding a Bow pulpit

What Shrew said! If your point is to get the anchor out away from hull and ready to deploy no need to build it to handle stress at anchor. That is what bridle back to forward cleat is for. If you do...

Re: Fuel polishing cost

Wow a boat project done by others under $500, the piece of mind would be worth it to me.

Re: Collision While at Anchor

Good point about anchor ball, I don’t use mine often although I did display it yesterday after going for a morning sail we got a call from our dock mate that we had forgotten our hose. I said we were...

Re: Diesel capacity/range

On our 34 sloop we have a 55 gal capacity plus 20 gallons on deck in jugs. On a simple long passage say from San Diego to Cabo not much diesel required since wind is fair. (Unless you need to rush to...

Re: Insurance for Mexico and Cuba

Getting back to the#2 post in this thread, Mexico doesn't require hull insurance. You may opt to insure your boat but only liability insurance is required. We stopped our hull insurance 7 years ago...

Re: Do It YOurself Distilled Water

Cassidy, No doubt in New Zealand drinking water is also mineral water and not fit for batteries. In Mexico drinking water is often RO water with tds of about 10 and works well for batteries. I never...

Re: Winch pad exploded

G 10 sounds like a fine upgrade. We carry a 4/1 tackle for man over board retrieval and use it for lifting our dinghy with less stress on our system.

Re: Fouled Prop: Potential Transmission/ shaft Damage.

Might have damaged transmission, try changing fluid anyway it won’t hurt and look for any problems in drained fluid. Good luck

Re: Do It YOurself Distilled Water

In the first world buying distilled water is easy and cheap. Here in Latin America however I have found agua batterie to be anywhere from 4 ppm (great) to 1100 ppm (not even potable by UN standards)...

Re: getting ready for some boat repairs

You mention the headsail, repairing a newer sail that was mistreated and damaged makes a lot of sense. Repairing a 15-20 year old sail that won’t perform is a waste. We have had our boat 20 years and...
