Re: Full battens won't fit

Could you tell us the brand of caps and tensioner or post a pic? It would be very frustrating, I'm sure.

Re: Full battens won't fit

Before you go cutting battens the fit last year, are you sure they are in the right pockets? If it's only an inch I would guess they are not fully seated or the caps not backed off fully.

Re: Boat Insurance Price Hike - Not Happy

A bit of a drift, but I feel a lot of the increases we are seeing are based on the hit they get from the charter fleets in hurricane areas. They used to require all boat to leave the "Zone" during...

Re: Tartan 3500 vs Sabre 362

I own and singlehand a Sabre 362. Great boat, sails balanced so don't need the Auto helm. When the wind gets up to the low to mid 20's will pace a Beneteau 36.7.
Mainsail mid boom sheeting could...

Re: How to protect the underside of teak handle

I've did my toe rails and handrails last year with Deks Olje 1 and 2 Gloss. On the Sabre the toe rail sits in a plastic seat for the rub rail and can't be sealed so water gets under varnish. Deks...

Re: Spinnaker Weight Question

It is important to look what the material is. .75 and 1.5 oz are usually nylons with some stretch. .60 is usually a polyester that has little stretch and doesn't like being abused as much.

Re: Gaff cutter - red sails - Vancovuer

If this is the boat that you are asking about I believe that he keeps it at the Maritime Museum docks in Kits.

Re: Thoughts on Wind Instruments

Dockhead, there are some polars for a Moody 54 DS models at ORC.org. Not sure if they are your specific model or not but worth a look.

Re: Modular Solar Setup Question

You don't say where you are, so this may not apply as it is a different approach but what about a methanol fuel cell like the efoy? (I have no connection) Small, out of the way, not interfere with...

Re: Emergency Tiller Location

One thing I would suggest is if the emergency tiller goes through the deck to the rudder post, manufacture a bushing to hold the tiller steady.

Racing to Hawaii, the quadrant broke and we went to...

Re: Surveyor & Insurance in the Bay Area

I used Rodgers and Associates out of Santa Cruz when I purchased my Sabre six years ago. Very thorough and reasonably priced.

Re: List of boats with skeg and sugar scoop

There must be some call for that design. The Sceptre 41 later added a sugar scoop to become the Sceptre 43.

https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/sceptre-43

They are out there.

Re: Handheld VHF Recommendations

As I single hand a lot I picked up the Standard Horizon HX851 years ago. It has a built in GPS and DSC capable. I also find it handy in the dinghy to have position, speed, way-points etc.

As it...

Re: Halyard Anti Chafe

From what I can see in the first picture with the halyard, is that the chafe starts where the halyard enters the mast behind the craned swivel block, assuming it is full hoist. One would have to go...

Re: Topside paint, another question of the ages

If using a colour other than white, it is best to tint the primer, for better coverage.

Re: Reefing Hanked-On Headsails

It used to be common to have reefing headsails. They usually had a second tack and clew patch with reef diamonds similar to slab reefing in a main.

The foot would need to be laced up with the...

Re: Headroom

My Sabre 362 has 6' 4" headroom and carries it well outboard and forward in the V berth. Others like the Express 37 have max headroom only on the centerline of the boat.
