Re: adding battery wiring for outboard motor

I had a 8 HP Merc with an alternator. The output is very small. #12 will be more than enough for up to at least 15 feet.

Re: Liveaboard in Baltimore in Winter

Accurate description and no offense taken. Rock Hall is a great place and and is a century away from Baltimore even the though the sail is roughly only 22 miles.

Re: Liveaboard in Baltimore in Winter

Hi. I have my boat at the inner harbor and have since 2013. Winters are relatively mild and electricity is stable and reliable (important for winter). There are relatively few marinas that allow...

Re: Powering Electronics Through Starting Voltage Drop

I switch everything off at the panel before starting the engine. After the engine is running you turn them on again. Once you get used to the process it really isn't an issue.

Re: Help Please --- First Time $1M+ Purchase

Novice sailor is ready to spend 1M+ on a first boat. Guess you can't make this stuff up.

HA! Far better than my first season. I think you did quite well.

Re: 39' Hunter underpowered with a 29HP Yanmar?

That is not enough engine for a boat that size.

Re: looking for a liveaboard slip in Maryland deep enough for our boat

Harbor East Marina in Baltimore is a very nice marina. You are right in the middle of the city but still safe. I have kept my boat there since 2013 and there has never been an issue. The nearest...

Re: Why Do We Drag Our Anchor?

I anchor in the upper Chesapeake. The one time I dragged anchor was because I did not set it correctly. I just dropped it. Noob mistake that cost me a gelcoat repair. Now I make sure I dig it in in...

Re: In production 27 ft sailboats.

I looked at the 275 at Annapolis once. It was laid out like a racer and did not look very comfortable as a weekender. I would not own one. I like Catalinas and have a 270, which is a great weekender.

Re: Where to keep the boat? Mid-Atlantic

This is a no brainer. Go to the Upper Chesapeake. Havre De Grace, Bohemia River, Rock hall, Worton Creek, etc. Many choices. I live minutes from some Delaware Bay marinas and I keep mine on the upper...

Re: Two new toys for testing antennas

Wow. Things have really changed. I remember they used to cost a kings ransom and having to grovel to my boss to get one for the shop. I'm definitely getting one. For 60 bucks, how can you go wrong.

Re: Ice in the bilge? Sad story. Or not?

Hello Diane. A dry erase marker from your local office supply store can help. Draw lines all around the bilge or areas that you think water may be coming from. The leaking water flow will dissolve...

Re: Paint type for the bilge

I used rustoleum enamel and it worked very well. Applied 5 years ago and still looks good.

Re: Need oppinion on this device

I have built and owned towers and radio sites. Lightning "prevention" is a dark art. Don't waste your money.

Re: Cruising in hot places- do you need a calorifier?

I am assuming a "calorifier" is an electric/engine fed water heater. I have a 6 gallon unit. My little 2 cylinder diesel provides enough hot water for at least 2 showers and lots of dish washing....

Re: Coolest Florida summer weather?

Probably South East FL would be the most mild. That's relative to the rest of the state of course. Very hot and humid in North Fl, the panhandle and the gulf coast. I lived there 20 years. Maimi/Ft...

Re: Engine - MOH or Repower?

You did say the engine purred when it was running. Low oil but did you not say you got an oil pressure alarm (assuming its working). I would rebuild/replace the alternator and starter, flush the...

Re: Repair cabin top screw holes

Try patch paste. It worked really well for me to repair some nasty chunks in the gel coat from an anchor. They make it in plenty of shades of white.

Re: Bareboat charter boat collision

I can't help but think this company is similar to the cruise lines who build their entire business model around the ability to avoid liability. I think this will be a rough go. Best of luck.

Gee. And I thought pirate flags were kinda cool. Definitely not political or provocative.

Re: Lowest Cost Place in Florida to do a Refit

I lived in Tallahassee for almost 20 years and commuted to DC for 10 of them. Yes, Tallahassee is served by Delta (I was a platinum) and American. But you will pay through the nose to fly and the...
