Re: Bitcoin and Gold/silver coins as payment abroad

digital is digital for a reason right?
Why not convert it to your needed currency digitally through whatever method you would normally use (coinbase?) and then withdraw that currency locally like...

Re: What was/is your bug out number?

I am sure my wife is worth more than that, however if I ever tried to place a value like that on her, I don't think I would have her long enough to try selling.........

Re: Window Saga. New Thread. Small Question.

Knowing the expansion, you could control where it goes with slotted holes and screws around the parameter.....

At minimum size the screws are in the outer edge of their slots, when it expands to...

Re: Window Saga. New Thread. Small Question.

An aluminum H channel secured to the frame?
A composite H channel?

Over sized holes and large area decorative washers? (I don't think it would look as good here though ;/ )

That is a lot of...

Re: Prowler Catamarans

Re: The rise of electric Boats

Well..... the smart money would be to store the boat for a year and buy a mid range loop boat and sell it when done and move back 'home' onto the catamaran.

Cheaper, less hastle setting up, less...

Re: The rise of electric Boats

Ok... In my fantasy land it 'might' be possible.
49x26 cat, roof built large to start with at 30x20, temporary frames put up for an additional 6x20 behind and 12x20 in front for the loop scinario. ...

Re: The rise of electric Boats

You lost me with lead acid..... Considering weight, discharge rate, charge rate, and usable amps, wouldn't an electric powered boat pretty much mean lifepo4?

Re: The rise of electric Boats

Funnily enough my 11yr old son brought home a class project to show me today, his perpetual motion machine uses solar to start a waterwheel that powers the propeller...... (He is aware perpetual...

Re: The rise of electric Boats

A temporary roof to house additional cheap solar sounds like a good approach. I like it.
Will need to scale your idea a bit though, the cat I am considering building is 49x26

If you can do without some of the comfort gforce 1500

The solitaire is currently at the front of my list to build.

Re: The rise of electric Boats

Yes, perhaps the most realistic approach is to get as much solar/lifepo4 as you can afford and fits attractively and a generously sized generator.

Worst case scenario you have all the losses in...

Re: The rise of electric Boats

Yes, but I will build a yacht intended to spend <5% of its life on the great loop, the rest of the time it would be much more practical as a sailboat.

The idea is to find a balance of compromises...

Re: The rise of electric Boats

Very rough generalization shouldn't you get roughly 1/4 of your cats footprint as roof space for potential solar? (not counting purpose built full length solar arrays that look butt ugly imo)

Re: The rise of electric Boats

For 20+ years of the life of my boat that is what I expect to do, however for the 1 year we do the Great Loop(unless we like it enough to repeat some day), I do not think that is practical, perhaps I...

Re: The rise of electric Boats

My thought process is size it so that you can go 50 miles in one day on 3 days worth of sun in IDEAL conditions, all other conditions you would run the generator for part of the run, or wait an extra...

Re: The rise of electric Boats

Fair enough :)
A simpler question perhaps so I can do the exercise myself.
Fully loaded for cruising, how much power do you need to push your boat 5kts? How much power to push your boat 8kts?

Re: The rise of electric Boats

Here is a theoretical question for you,

Using your boat, you take the mast off and spend a year doing the great loop. You travel 50 mile legs, stop and 'tourist' for 2 days, then go another 50.

Re: Who buys new?

I don't know but my top guesses,

1. Those who can afford to.
2. Those who can or will use it as a business.
3. Those who can take some sort of tax advantages from a rapidly depreciating asset.(I...

Re: Too good to be true? A fractional ownership for 2012 Lagoon 500

I don't see the math adding up for a middle class family where writing...

Re: Starlink and the future of communication at sea

I could be wrong, but as I understand it the current batch of satellites still require an earth base as they do not communicate amongst themselves(yet).

So they do discriminate in that they can...
