Re: Antenna only or M2M booster

All the devices will have similar performance for LTE signals; the differences will be in the antenna gain (directivity) and the antenna location. You should be using the highest location possible...

Re: corona virus alerts - Latest cruising Information for vessels/locations/rules

Here's a low-cost vent innovation project from Georgia Tech in cooperation with Atlanta's Piedmont Hospital, re-using the commonly available ambu-bag and other parts. They are trying to get it made...

Re: Wifi extenders update

Range is dependent upon power, antenna gain, line loss between the antenna and the transceiver, and path loss between the antennas. Higher gain is achieved by increasing the directionality. This...

Re: Wifi extenders update

It is important for the extender to be able to connect to remote Access Points at 2.4 or 5 GHz, for two reasons: the 2.4GHz band is frequently congested, and there is more bandwidth at 5GHz which...

Re: Thinwall PVC Sanitation Pipe Source?

It does have this cert: FAR/CS 25.853 Appendix F, Part I (a)(1)(ii)&(iv)"Vertical & Horizontal flammability test", but I'm not sure if that is comparable to the UL test.

Re: Thinwall PVC Sanitation Pipe Source?

Yes, and the Sch 30 seems to have 1/8" wall thickness, about 59% larger than the Tigre.

Re: Thinwall PVC Sanitation Pipe Source?

That looks like nice stuff, although probably overkill on the temp range. Maybe the Vena MT product (CAT equivalent) would be ok. It goes to +125C (or +150C for short periods).

The Vinilit...

Re: Thinwall PVC Sanitation Pipe Source?

Ha, funny I didn't think of that; I have flared and shrunk Sch 40 PVC pipe with a heater I made from halogen lamps and with suitable mandrels.

Re: Thinwall PVC Sanitation Pipe Source?

Probably; but at least once they ran two pipes in parallel too closely to allow a thickwalled coupler like these.

Re: Thinwall PVC Sanitation Pipe Source?

DWV is a much thicker wall, and won't interface.

Re: Thinwall PVC Sanitation Pipe Source?

I believe it's OD due to a drawing from by Tigre of the bell end ID: https://www.tigre.com.br/en/node/393

Re: Thinwall PVC Sanitation Pipe Source?

I tried 3" parts from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HXHAMWO, they were much too large. I know that the difference shouldn't have been so much, but it was.

Thinwall PVC Sanitation Pipe Source?

My boat uses a thinwall (1.7mm to 2mm) grey PVC pipe for airflow ducts from bilges. These are 75mm diameter, and are not interchangeable with US PVC pipes (closest is 3"). They are produced and sold...

Re: Resonating bridle on catamaran

There really is a lot more to this subject than I expected! Vortex induced vibration is indeed a big subject in the industrial marine area, as long undersea pipes have the same issue as my bridle, ...

Re: Resonating bridle on catamaran

Maybe; not sure what would happen in opposing wind and currents. It might double the tension on one leg if the boat sails to one side, reducing vibration.

Re: Resonating bridle on catamaran

Yes, sailing over the chain sometimes, although not when I had the resonant situation.

I have done that in St. Augustine - I had to abandon the moorings since I wasn't acting like a monohull,...

Re: Resonating bridle on catamaran

It was pulled straight down, 3/8" G4 in 28 feet of water. My bridles legs are 50', about 4' of line for cleating (46' left for shock absorption), 5' of line used to reach the bow, then descending 5'...

Re: Resonating bridle on catamaran

Thanks, we'll try shortening the bridle. But we can't get it out of the water without losing the point of having it. That's too short. The webbing might work, interesting damping solution. I'll need...

Resonating bridle on catamaran

Re: Is Active Captain still useful? How to add a location.

SuW, correct again! I selected an existing marker (that's a stupid approach, right at the start), then the More hamburger icon, then Edit.

That opens a blank browser page within the app, that...

Re: Is Active Captain still useful? How to add a location.

SuW, you are correct - at least for the web app. The Android app still seems to lack an Add Marker feature.

But O.M.G. what a terrible UI! It is simply not worth the effort.

I cannot see any of the details given by SuW in the Android app, or the web app. It looks like they are making AC into a BlueChart Mobile replacement, with waypoints and route planning, but without...

Re: Nassau - where to purchase WiFI Extender?

Re: B&G Wifi GoFree, remote control autopilot via Ipad and Apps with NMEA2000 data

AFAIK there's no way to control the AutoPilot using Link, or via SignalK. It's their idea of safe boating. I have a similar setup, Zeus2, Tritons, GoFree, Ipad and Android phones running B&G's Link...
