Needle nose pliers will let you grab the stem. (Remember watching TV as a kid?)

Or, you can take it apart and put in any switch you wish (of sufficient capacity)

Yeast and TWO vents to allow the tank to breathe. Anything else is, at best, perfume and, at worst, kill off all the helpful bacteria. Either will make it smell far, far worse.
