Oh,ive had better luck buffing out acrylic than polycarbonate, we are just replacing the lexan windows on my sons boat after 25 yrs, they have never leaked and have no cracks but you havnt been able...

Thomas is right on re the Lexan clouding, ive done dozens of windows, ports and hatches over the years and have pretty much settled on cast acrylic for most things unless i can use glass....

Bill,when i was building my boat i had the obligatory copy of Hartleys book and i still think it was one of the best,not just on Ferro but excellent on the subjects of cabinetry,fittout etc.

Bill,are you sure you are reading correctly? as i recall the choice of chicken mesh vs welded sqare mesh was largely designer driven with designers such as Hartley prefering chicken wire and Benford...

Mitch57, your boat may not be a Sampson at all, the description sounds like a Peter Ibold designed Endurance 35, there were many built in Ferro around the world as well as being pro built in the UK...

WTF,that boat has absolutly no mesh over the stringers, please dont be mislead into believing that this is how a ferro boat is built, it is not. That the boat has made it this far is impressive....

Mortar is a common term for the cement mix without the aggregate used for plastering things, ferro cement sounds better than ferro mortar though imho.

This is not so, many boats, in fact all Hartleys were built with the 2 shot system where the outside is done first then the inside several weeks later after water curing the outside.

With a glass hull you have no more idea of whats under the gelcoat than whats in the armature of a ferro boat, i repair them every day and i dont know whats in there, if i need to know i have to take...
