Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
Yet you previously state a cruise loaded performance boat has no speed advantage over a charter cat?

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
The negative aspect is your wind speed instrument is way of. The positive aspect is your boat is significantly faster than previously thought. I’d say overall that’s a big positive!

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
I just watched your video on the other thread and the wind speed was showing 15-18 kts true. Do you think that’s accurate? I didn’t see any white caps and in 15-18 I would think white caps would be...

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
I’m in the same “boat” as you, trying to learn a new catamaran to us. I can’t give accurate figures for our cat but we are really happy with the performance even being fully loaded.
If you are...

Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
I would put the comment on the “good” list as I think it’s hard to maintain a good speed while pointing that high.
We don’t have wind instruments or a speedo so my observations on our boat speed per...

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
Looked to me like you were maintaining a good speed pointing 40-45 of the true wind? I would think that is hard for any boat to accomplish.

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
Would be nice to know what kind of cats these are as your boat I believe is considered a racing monohull with a PHRF of about 70? Probably wouldn’t be a fair comparison if the cats were your basic...

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
That’s funny. I just read your 2019 blog about the Banderas Bay race and you finished behind 2 catamarans. Guess you didn’t wipe them out that year? I guess they showed you what they had and made no...

The Lagoon 400 is a very heavy cat with nothing added.

A Gunboat 60 tacking through 110 deg? Now that’s sad.

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
The L400’s beam is only 1.5’ wider than the L39, not a huge difference. But the L39’s beam at centerline is about 1’ wider than the L400’s making the 39 more stable.

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
We are talking tacking angles and not the current top selling boats, correct?
I’ve always considered the Beneteau to be one of the better sailing production monohulls, and the Lagoon not. That’s why...

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
Catana’s and Outremers are production built boats, Schionning is a designer not a builder. I’m guessing most Schionning designs are custom built so it may be the build that was the problem and not...

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
That’s like me saying I chartered an OI 41 a few times so all monohull are pigs.
Maybe charter a more performance oriented cat before making a ridiculous blanket statement?

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
You can reef that lightweight huge sail area cat to slow her down and make her more stable, ain’t nothing you can do to that Lagoon to speed her up. I’m guessing if the lightweight cat had enough...
