It seems the connector and/or cable is corroded or has a temporary problem. So it works sometimes and sometimes not.
Have look in your other logfiles to find a hint.

I don't know about CentOS but I think the best way might be to try to use the oesenc plugin instead of s63. There seems to be several cheap charts for use with oesenc.

Sorry to have to say it: OpenCPN is a software for sailors which have at least a very little bit knowledge of their computer. Not only to know where the ON/OFF switch is but a very few things more....
