i think if everyone steps back a bit and thinks you will realise you are both right and actually talking about different things

in surface drift & current the actual water molecules...

Exactly. Why insist on a cruising design to have some not truly essential features like stellar upwind angles?

our cat (40' tasman / 7.5mt) still very much a cruising boat but sails MUCH better than some. even with in-mast furling main (ie no battens) we can do 35deg AWA in flat water

of course pointing...
