Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Wow! Sorry to see you go! But on the other hand I won't have to hide my boat under a tarp now when you sail into my anchorage!
Seriously I wish you the best and have a great time in the...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Finally got my C29 out the other day and had her consistently going over 6 knots upwind, in 10 knots of wind, which is a first for me! The only difference is that I added all that chain under the...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

OK I see, so the Defenders and C29s, it appears, just had the hulls numbered but not the model. In other words, they built the hull and then every other one was a Defender or C29.

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

I have the same plate around my rudder post, and it says Glas Laminates, but Rob I wonder, isn't your hull number there? I can't recall how they did the hull numbers for the Defenders.

As to the...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

You are EXTREMELY kind with your accolades but I know I'll be hiding out in another anchorage when you come by!

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Well I think you know my story, the PO glued down vinyl flooring which looked great for the years he had it I imagine. But getting it off and that black mastik off the wood is a job I hope to never...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

That's the kind of thing I'm looking for, thanks! A custom ladder will be a little pricey for me though I am afraid. And yes, a ladder of the stern only seems like a good idea at the boat show!

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

I'd like to find one that is permanently attached, on the side and folds up even with the lifelines/stanchions. Have you seen one like that?

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

OK looking at your photos again, I now think the rode coming off your roller will probably not hit the support bar, so it looks like it'll be ok. No need for extra fitting below, though it might be...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

I had a brain fart there. The other main reason boats with bowsprits have the snubber on the lower fitting of the bobstay is BECAUSE the rode will lean on the bobstay when it comes off the roller or...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

I don't have it yet but the boat I used to sail had it like the photo here, but it doesn't seem beefy enough to hold the boat. I'd prefer to see ears, like tangs that bolt through big backing blocks...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

So, a couple of thoughts... if you have a bridle coming out of the hawseholes, will it interfere with the bow support there? Can lines come out of the hawseholes unimpeded?

I always thought I'd...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Let's go sailing some more and you can experiment more on my boat!

Oh, and I'd say lay the teak lengthwise; your first option.

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

If it is any help, if it were me I'd keep it that way because I am right handed and I lift the anchor and chain by hand. It's fine. It's doable with our boats.

BTW our design doesn't hobby horse...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Yes, except that the PO added boards to shrink the size of the companion way to lessen the chance of flooding the cabin (and I have yet to get a wave, or even much spray, in the cockpit, but if I...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Now, where to put it, where it can swing feely in all directions and not be in the way, is kinda the trick. As you recall I have a spot in mine that comes from the companionway closure addition in...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

No, you got it right for this application. Rod rigging wouldn't work here, that's not what it is meant for. It's all looking great!

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

A light on it, I like that idea! I usually have to put a headlamp on when dealing with the anchor in the dark. Can't wait to see it. The kids will sure love it, I bet it will bring up the squid!

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Fantastic! I really like the board that fills in the space under the cockpit benches making those small quarter berths. That has me thinking.
Let me know if start thinking/planning those boom...

Looking beautiful. You should put in before and after pictures for those not familiar with the boat!
