I just went back and re-read the anchor road section.
I read it wrong.
The 1/4" was for the smallest Bahama moor/dinghy anchor only.
The rest was 5/16"
Kelpy rocky areas are a challenge to anchor...

I guess the main thing that bothers me about the small diameter chain is if one link gets nicked or chafed halfway through, you effectively have 1/8" chain in terms of breaking strength.

I've installed a 25 hp 4 stroke Yamaha high thrust on my SR 40.
It has the gearbox of a 40 hp motor and turns a 12 inch prop
Mounted on the stern on a IMC Easylift hydraulic motor bracket....

I switched to a quadrant and cable system years ago.
It works great.
very low tek strong and simple.
I have an off center helm also.
It doesn't matter where you locate the helm.

Unfortunatly the rot is bed enough in places that some plywood will need to be replaced.

You might find,after using the hank on sails.....
That they are no problem at all.
especially on a 34 ft. boat.
Maybe take the money you would use for the furlers, and put it in the cruising...

My father was a latex paint man.
Once a year we would scrub the cabinsides and deck down in the morning,
and paint that afternoon(at anchor).
The topsides would be done the same way on the beach....
