Getting in and out of my pen with a full keel sailboat.

Hi

I know there are a couple of post already about this and I have read them, but they do not answer my questions specifically.

I have a full-keeler, a 27 ft Top Hat, very nice boat, great...

Re: Can I get some opinions? Ketch - Australia

The question is why does it have to be a ketch rigged boat? One thing that comes to mind is (apart from the fact that such a configuration is more to handle) that with a mizzen it is much more...

Re: Big engine in small sailboat but not much forward motion

Hi

First of all, thanks very much for all the great and interesting advice. I am learning lots of bits and pieces from all the replies!

After diving down and knowing a fouled prop is most...

Re: Big engine in small sailboat but not much forward motion

Here is an update: I dived under the boat this week (freezing cold) and tried to clean the prop, with not that much success. It hard to hold yourself down, hold your breath and then start scrubbing...

Re: Big engine in small sailboat but not much forward motion

I do not think it is a fouled prop as when I discovered this I spoke to the previous owner and also the owners before that. They say under engine the boat has always been slow. I assume the prop...

Re: Big engine in small sailboat but not much forward motion

Hi

The boat is a Top Hat 27. Although the Top Hat 25 model is very common (and regarded as very seaworthy), only 4 Top Hat 27 yachts were ever made. I know of one other but it has a different...

Sailboat with a big engine but very little forward motion

Hi

I recently bought a sailboat, which I am very happy with except one thing. When I use the engine there is very little forward motion, never more than 3.5 knots. This is a problem when I have...

Re: Opinion on bluewater sailboat characteristics

If you are not very experienced I would definitely suggest a smaller boat rather than bigger. In fact, in my view most people overestimate the room (including storage) they need on a boat, especially...

Re: Using the Canal du Midi to travel from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean

Thanks for al the great replies! The main sticking point seems to be the depth of the canal and the fact that apparently in September it is at its shallowest. I thought by then it would be deeper...

Re: 40 year old sailboat with good survey, vs 20 year old sailboat with good survey?

Hi

To me the most important criteria are not about the age of the boat, but what kind of sailing you plan to do. Then you look for a boat that is in good condition irrespective of age, but always...

Hi

I subscribe to the philosopy of Lyn and Larry Pardey "Go small, go simple, go now" (you should read their books, very interesting for sailors and liveboard alike).

The reason I subscribe...

I can only tell you how I solved my docking problem in a way that worked extremely well, perhaps this will work for you too.

Say you are docking on the starboard side. I left one docking line on...

Yes but then of course you cannot keep the yacht more than 18 months at the time in Europe without paying VAT. For me this was the whole idea: I want to sail in Europe in retirement and...

I live in Australia and agree with many of the posts that there is much less choice in boats here than in Europe or the US. I would put Europe first in terms of choice and quality of boats and...

Re: Hello and General Question

I think the most important thing is when things go wrong not to panic but break down the problem piece by piece, then try to resolve it. Sailing can be like that, great one moment and a disaster the...
