Well I have my 200 ton captains license, have been a past ASA, ussailing instructor, currently a nauticed.org sailing instructor. Unless you going to do some commercial stuff, just doing the ASA...

If you are more than 300 nautical miles from a USA USCG station that has a helicopter, yes you need a certified ocean raft ..... that is my rule, if inside 300 miles I just use emersion suits .........

bad idea, the MFP's provided by vendors have gone through validation .... even then the B&G we had on green flash, with every wave that hit would pan to japan ..... we stopped using it sailing from...

Its important first off that charging of those lithium batteries should be done while being observed, like do it in galley or at chart table where people would see or smell it ......

I have been a delivery captain for 8 years, have a Fast Find 220 PLB .....

Thank god I have not had to use it, but it does function as an EPIRB in my delivery business .....

wrong PLB is an EPIRB with less battery life than a ship board
