Re: Can I ask, what are these guys trying to do in this video?

Looks like they are making a good case for having a more manual reefing system. Perhaps 3 reef points in the main?

Re: A Life Worth Living

Well said! My wife and I made the choice to live life completely a couple of years ago and we haven't had any regrets since! It's amazing what happens when you meet people stripped down to who they...

Re: theres gotta be something better than pcv to secure wires in mast?

Gee, I almost found this post useful. Thanks for clarifying. I guess that annoying slapping I keep hearing in my mast must be my internal halyards, not my wires. Didn't even know I had internal...

Perko Wiring, What Not To Do...

Do not mistake the com post as the common ground, ie, don't hook up the negative battery terminal to it:) Glad I didn't burn the whole boat down:whistling:

Re: Getting to the top of the mast on a fractional rig without using the main halyard

Exactly. Now you have the knowhow to get up there, just install some new blocks and run a couple more lines....BTW, NEVER go up without 2 halyards and some sort of safety line around the mast.

Re: Are Deck Lifelines a Nearly Complete Waste?

Beef em up if your that worried about it. I added 4 more stanchions (8 total now) and 1/4" wire with a rope line running halfway up, netted in, all backed up by the biggest buttblocks I could fit...

Re: sinking??????

I had the same experience replacing my hoses. Had to cut them off. If they were just installed though.... without proper hose clamps, all it would take is a bump from something loose in the bilge.

Re: sinking??????

Re: Paper Charts Now Unnecessary

Who buys new charts these days, anyway? Used are way cheaper, and usually plenty to be found... Try asking a tanker captain while in a larger harbor clearing in, or other sailors in the area.....

Re: As the Euro drops this looks good ...

Of course the Broker would say that.... That's their job! Most broker's aren't much of a sailor, so I wouldn't believe much of what they say... especially touting it to be atlantic-crossing ready!...

Re: Dismasting - Why does it happen, how to prevent it

Most chainplates are not submerged in saltwater, though, correcte? Wouldn't this effect the life expectancy greatly? What if regular maintenance included weekly freshwater rinsing?

Re: Pitch In And Help

Then you weren't here for it. It was a doozy for a TS bordering on Hurricane. At least that's what we experienced.

Re: Derelicts and Live Aboard Hulks

Very well put and gets right to the heart of the matter. Here in St. Pete, the Assistant DA has been the one really pushing for the new (anti-)anchoring laws, in an effort to make a name for...
