Re: Plascore polypro honeycomb for cabintop core?

Yeah - I didn't notice until after I posted that it looks like the skinless version of Plascore was what I was looking at. And as pointed out in another response, the compression strength wasn't that...

Plascore polypro honeycomb for cabintop core?

I need to replace some of the pilothouse cabintop fiberglass core on our Formosa 51 due to leaks leading to rotting of the plywood core.

I was looking at either marine plywood ($237 for a 4'x8'x1"...

Re: Raymarine Networking of chartplotters

From his avatar picture, it looks like the OP may have a radar. If so, it is probably directly connected via ethernet (RayNet) to one of their two chartplotters. If that's the case, then they need an...

Re: AGM Battery Life

In our Formosa 51, the engine start battery (Fullriver DC200-12 AGM) and the house bank (4 x DC400-6 AGM) were both in the engine room - below the salon sole - and we never had a heat problem while...

Re: data management (photos/videos) aboard

Make that external hard drives.

For around $100 or so you can by a RAID array enclosure from Amazon. Stuff 4 identical drives in it, and set it up as a RAID 10 array: it combines the four drives...

Re: [Bit of a Rant] Is the NMEA Corrupt or Incompetent?

Some further minor corrections:

NMEA 0183 was published in 1983, whereas IEEE 10BASE2 (aka ThinNet or CheaperNet) was published in 1985. So 0183 was before ThinNet.
NMEA 0183 is derivative of...

So your Onan genset provides only 110V? I'm not familiar with the generator head, but is it not possible to tap 220V off of it?

That's how my Westerbeke 7.6BTD is - provides two 110V/60Hz 30A taps...

Re: newcomer to raspbery pi 3B for marine electronics

FWIW, for a dedicated plotter application the 3B+ is great, but I would recommend the Raspberry Pi 4 - it has two video ports, USB 3.0, up to 4GB RAM, a faster processor, and a "real" gigabit...

Does that battery rebuild come with a warranty?

I would not want to think what this guy's blood lead levels are.

Fascinating nonetheless. Watch this guy completely rebuild a WLA battery:
