Re: Broker charging for a sea trial??

A broker dealing with an occasional tire kicker is part of the business. I'ts no different than when a broker tells me a boat is "turn key" and I spend a full day driving just to find out on first...

Re: Broker charging for a sea trial??

$125 isn't really a lot, its more about principle. It would be like me putting a car for sale up on craigslist, then charging every prospective buyer $20 for a test drive. They would tell me to get...

Re: Broker charging for a sea trial??

The boat was sitting in the water ready to go. I can see paying for a lift if it was sitting on the hard or something like that.

Paying for a sea trial before you make any offer sounds reasonable...

Just go out for a few days on your C18. I have spent many weeks living and cruising on mine throughout the Pacific Northwest. It has more room that John Guzzwell's Trekka.. Once you get used to the...

Re: Safety of Life at Sea - Life and death matters at sea.

There really seems to be WAY too many posts on this forum about folks being afraid of the sea. If you even have the slightest fear of going to sea, then it is not for you. Stay on land. The sea WILL...

Re: The Boat as Idea

I happen to agree with Jimbo485 100%.

There are some of use who actually sail and are sick and tired of the dreamers clogging up the marinas and boat yards. If you want to dream.. go read a book.

Re: Blue Water Sailing

The first time I got hit with a wave big enough to knock me on my a##, I knew I had found my calling. The sea had reached up and taken its first punch and now I knew that this was a beast that I must...

Re: Blue Water Sailing

Yes, you are correct no wife or kids, but I would also never intentionally put my crew in harms way. Thats why I prefer to single hand.

Every sport has its thrill seekers who want to push...

Re: Blue Water Sailing

For me.. Nothing is more exciting than playing in huge waves and heavy weather.. Wondering if the sea is going to rip your boat apart and suck you down to Dave Jones is 75% of the thrill. Surviving...

Re: Is a Catalina 22 Seaworthy Enough to Make the Passage from Florida to the Bahamas

It's perfectly capable. Many Catalina 22's and even a Catalina 18' have been sailed to Hawaii.

Just dont listen to they nay' sayers on this forum, most of them are too afraid to ever leave port.

My advice is to shower ashore.. Truckstops, marinas, friends, ect. Otherwise the boat will be always be damp and you will need to fill your water tanks often.

Re: Sailboat Hits Bridge

If this bridge is the one i'm thinking, it's the rotating type.

Running aground is easy in the Columbia, but hitting a bridge??

He should have asked them to move the bridge.

Re: How Does a Solo Handler Drop the Hook on a Large Sailboat ?

I usually drop the anchor from the cockpit and then after setting, walk the rode up to the bow and cleat. Rarely have I ever had the luxury of crew to help, do it all myself.
When pulling, I do it...
