Confusion about tidal current

I'm confused about something. At what point during the tide cycle is the current strongest?

Where we are, each ebb and flood takes about six hours. I have always thought that the maximum current...

Re: Can't open deckfill.

Thanks. A friend messaged me, and told me exactly what you're saying. Hey, I got HS and college diplomas without a minute of physics. Journalism major. The "fairness doctrine" does not seem to apply...

Re: Can't open deckfill.

I've used Kroil. But the next go-round will be with liquid wrench. And I'll hammer with a hard rubber mallet; last time I used a hammer, and I was afraid of damaging the top of the cap too much. (Did...

Re: Can't open deckfill.

Okay, here's what I don't get about the idea of using heat.

Heat expands metal.

We have two parts here: the cap and the "doughnut." If you heat the whole thing, two things happen. 1) The cap...

Re: Can't open deckfill.

That's exactly what we're using. I found a way to stableize it in the slot, then hammer on it in a CCW direction. No dice.

Can't open deckfill.

Why us? Seriously.

Today we went to get a pumpout. We have a deckplate for the holding tank on the cockpit sole, like that shown below. Good news: the pumpout station was functioning.

Bad...

Re: Question about Racor RK19671 Vacuum Gauge

Thanks, Jamhass.

Someone told me to leave that little cap open forever. Do you concur with that?

I have a telltale pointer on the gauge, which shows me its highest point reached, and stays...

Re: Best paint for rode markings?

I'm not familiar with chain inserts. Could you please post a link to a product like you use?

I might go with zip ties or inserts on the chain, then the dye on the rope.

Thanks.

Re: Best paint for rode markings?

Thanks.

Is your rode going through a windlass? We have an electric windlass, and I'm thinking that might chew up zip ties, maybe even foul up the windlass. Otherwise, I really like the idea,...

Best paint for rode markings?

What is the best type of spray paint to use to make length markings on an anchor rode?

We have 100 feet of galvanized chain and 150 ft. of nylon plait. I want to mark at 50' intervals, so one or...

Cruising chute w/ ATN snuffer

We have decided to part with our asymmetrical spinnaker. Or call it a drifter.

The sail was made by a local sailmaker in Beaufort NC. It is in very good condition. Luff: 41'. Foot: 22'.

It is...

Re: Maxwell windlass question

Thanks, SM.

I wondered why mine was not a flat head, actually, as that would seem more sensible. Is there perhaps an aspect of the installation job that might make the boat yard decide to use a...
