I tie a 100' length of parachute chord to a stern cleat and then tie a 50' length of 100lb test line to the end of that with a leader on the end.

I take up about 6' of slack on the parachute chord...

I guess it would depend on all sorts of circumstances (i.e. How far from shore, condition of vessel, etc.

If it's 50 or a 100 miles from shore and in perfect condition; NO i would not sink it.
