Re: Transporting large sailboat over the road, max height

I believe up to 15 foot something it will just cost more in permits over that I think it gets complicated.

I used Associated Boat Transport to ship my much smaller boat from WA to CA, they have a...

Re: Alexa and 12v switches.

Alexa is simply a voice assistant, think of it as a gateway from your voice to Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

To control lights or other IoT from a cell phone you need a controller that can...

Re: Boat going backwards...

Did you check the shift cable linkage for being correct?

Not that I did this on my boat accidentally.... makes driving a bit tricky :)

Re: SeaTalk connectors

I was just offering up an idea for the OP, thanks for the offer maybe they can take advantage, raymarine seems to make their cables out of the rarest finest materials made of magic and fairy dust...

Re: New Autopilot - CPT vs Raymarine EV100

I ended up replacing the motor, gearbox and belt on my existing ST4000+ and it's working great now. I think I'm just going to keep using as is since it's been working fine for my needs so far. But...

Re: SeaTalk connectors

Well I learned a thing then, didn't know about that earlier connector, is the protocol just straight Seatalk1? If so you can just use 1/8th inch spades to the pins on the flat connector side, no need...

Re: SeaTalk connectors

The small round connectors are Seatalkng which is Raymarine's proprietary connector for NMEA 2000, the large flat 3 blade connector is Seatalk 1 which is a Raymarine proprietary protocol. Tthere's...

Re: Anchor questions

I'm a little scared to jump into here. I cruised around with my current boat, Ericson 35-3, with a 35 lb CQR and never had any issues in the sound or my current location. That said I just upgraded to...

Re: Help wanted with first time ATN Climber use.

I've been using the ATN for some years and I like it a lot, I don't find it too tiring, I'm not in great shape and when I did my radar mount I was up and down a lot, that was a bit exhausting. It...

Re: Are those up to date charts really up to date?

All good points, well taken. Yes there's not a whole lot of commercial traffic travelling on Saratoga passage, I can get that resurveying a nonnavigable mud flat is not a useful exercise for anyone....

Are those up to date charts really up to date?

Recent thread I was looking at started me thinking on this. I took this excerpt (attached) from NOAA chart 18427, this is a little bit of water that concerns the thread that started me thinking it...

Re: New Autopilot - CPT vs Raymarine EV100

Thanks Bill, that's rad! I'm warming up to the idea of PyPilot. I've got a board with Openplotter installed that I need to get back to messing with looks like.

Well now I'm thinking, and that's a...

Re: New Autopilot - CPT vs Raymarine EV100

Curious about PyPilot, has anyone here made a system that works well?

The concept looks great, I'm still not comfortable homebrewing the mechanics on this type of thing since I do rely pretty...

Re: Advices on electronics

The only trick for this trip would be getting out the channel and through the mud flats on the Anacortes end, sounds like the depth sounder is in and working now just old? If so, go for it add some...

Hey, thanks for all the thoughts and opinions! Really appreciated, and helped me coalesce my thoughts on the matter.

I'm starting to lean toward rebuilding the motor in my existing drive, that...

New Autopilot - CPT vs Raymarine EV100

I'm looking at getting my autopilot refreshed, and am trying to work out which direction I want to go. I'm tossing around whether I refurb my existing ST4000+, buy Raymarine EV100, or recently was...

My two cents, leaving aside all the other issues of getting old boats into cruising shape, for electronics up in your neighborhood, as an absolute you don't need much, but they sure can make life...

Re: Autopilot has failed

If my memory serves to test the rudder sensor there is a min/max spec for resistance, the sensor is just a variable resistor. Check resistance across the sensor's travel min and max - should be in...

Re: RF vs Hanked on on a 24ft tri

My opinion, sail it as is for awhile and see if you find that you want to be able to furl the sail. If you find that you want to be able to furl vs. changing sails it can always be added. If you find...

No, I won't give you that. Your continued position at least as far as I can understand from your writing, is that a higher potential is more dangerous than a lower potential. Therefore no matter the...

Re: Comparative Safety: 12v v 24v v 48

An example from my world, which is more dangerous - a 16 kV ESD pulse (defined by IEC 61000-4-2) or a 2kV Surge pulse (defined by IEC 61000-4-5). If the be all...
