UPDATE:
I removed the studs by putting on double nuts and backing the studs out. Of the two studs, one with a flat background was easy while the other sat in a concave indent in the heat exchanger...

D2-55 Heat Exchanger Replacement

I'm replacing my Volvo Penta D2-55B heat exchanger with current replacement part #22898286 which is for the "F" model.

I have all the bolts, hoses, wiring, etc. off but cannot separate the heat...

The D2-55 service manual has a nine-step procedure. Number ONE is to drain the seawater and coolant. Number TWO is "Disassemble the exhaust manifold together with the heat exchanger."
