Re: The most popular dinghy size

I have seen a couple of UK FRIBs down this way. Actually one is used by another Moody 45DS. It folds up and fits very neatly in the rear ‘garage’ on the 45DS. They can also be folded up and strapped...

Re: Fin keel or Full keel...

I would say it a good choice for a first boat. A Fractional Sloop is fine, roller furling Jib even better as you will also learn that skill set. Do you have anyone who knows about sailboats that...

Re: The most popular dinghy size

Highfield CL310 Hypalon, FC7 Console with a 20 HP O/B for the Moody 45DS. A less than 3m Zodiac FR (soft floor) with a 4HP O/B for the Catalina270. Sorry I forget the actual size and I am away from...

Re: corona virus alerts - Latest cruising Information for vessels/locations/rules

In Bonaire, the Immigration and Custom folks have become more strict on enforcing the length of stays rules. For many months they just looked the other way when cruiser left, if over the limits....

Re: Fin keel or Full keel...

I got a great picture that I will try and post tomorrow. It is a very pretty full keel boat in the yard on Bonaire, undergoing some 'refreshing'. Seriously, I love just about anything that sails.

Re: Fin keel or Full keel...

You will have great fun on a Sunfish. It will teach you to be a sailor with regards to sail trim, keeping an eye out for the gusts, and keeping the main sheet in hand (or at least very close at...

Re: Ancient Gibb blocks

My guess is they are made from a Phenolic Plastic Material. Google it, and you find lots of hits. Printed circuit boards used in most current electronics are a modern version. The original Phenolic...

Re: Fin keel or Full keel...

Speaking of Sunfish, a great way to learn how to sail and to swim at the same time. I was out today for a few hour day sail in the 45DS. The trade were bowing at 20 - 27 knots. We were on the west...

Re: Fin keel or Full keel...

I agree the Hobie 16 is a really great boat, IMHO the Wave is more in the toy category. Well I guess they are all toys at some level. However, I have had a lot of fun on a wave at some Caribbean...

Re: Fin keel or Full keel...

Indeed it is, the Keel Canal is how we got our Moody 45DS out of Northern Germany via the Baltic then into the Atlantic to make its way over to the Caribbean. If you ever find yourself in Keel, drop...

Re: Covid vaccination status for CF members

Hey fxykty,

From my personal sample of 12 Cruisers/Boaters who got both Pfizer/BioNTech jabs on Bonaire over the last few weeks. None of us got anything more than a sore shoulder for a day or so....

Re: Covid vaccination status for CF members

As I noted earlier both the wife and myself got our second Pfizer shots this last Thursday, three weeks after we received our first. In both case all we had was a mildly sore shoulder for about 1...

Re: Covid vaccination status for CF members

Both the wife and I are now vaccinated. Zero noted side effects on the first shot, 3 weeks ago. We just got our second jab a couple of hours back. So far all I feel is a need for a drink, but since...

Re: How Many BTUs AC on your 50ft(ish) catamaran

Moody 45DS, so a main salon much like a smaller Cat. Total of 30,000BTUs, 2 7K units for the 2 lower forward sleeping quarters and a very small ‘office’ room, and then a single 16K for the main...

Re: Flexiteek?

Yes that is correct. The boat in the Video tour with the young lady is our boat. Also the rotating 3D pictures are also of our boat and give a pretty good idea on what our Flexiteek looks like. I...

Re: Flexiteek?

I’m in Bonaire. No commercial flights from the US to here just yet. Maybe in Mid Jan, is what ‘they’ say. We normally come in on AA from MIA or UA from IAH. We chartered a private...

Re: Flexiteek?

Well we spent today on our 45DS on Bonaire in the direct sun and air temps at +30C. Bare-feet was not a problem at all, both the wife and I walked all around the Flexiteek decking. I did not get a...

Re: Flexiteek?

How long do you have to make the choice? I am not sure if Hanse/Moody even offered a ‘no teak’ version. When I did a factory tour this last January it seemed most of the boats in production had some...

Re: Flexiteek?

We have the Ver 2.0, or so the paperwork shows. We went with the washed white to try and keep it as cool as possible. I think I left my IR thermometer in Bonaire and if so I will take some readings...

Re: Flexiteek?

It was a factory option we went with on our Moody 45DS that was delivered to us in July 2020 in Bonaire. However, given all the various Covid lock downs we have no real experience using it yet. We...

Re: How much is your boat taxed?

In Canada I imported my Catalina 270 into Alberta and paid the 5% GST. The import of my Moody 45DS into Bonaire was taxed at 8%, they call it ABB. No yearly ‘taxes’ in either location.
