Re: 200nm+ AIS targets

A certified transceiver knows your MMSI and shouldn't output messages received from your "own ship" via a repeater. If I recall there is a certification test case for this. However, receivers aren't...

Re: 200nm+ AIS targets

Right, on-board AIS transceivers don't act as repeaters. That's done by shore-based repeaters or base stations.

As previously noted, tropospheric ducting causes the long range. I've seen 100's of...

Re: Vesper XB-8000 to Raspberry Pi via USB

I'm not certain if the Linux USB driver on our website will work on your Pi. The USB driver is needed to create a virtual serial port. But it might already be present in your disto already since this...

Re: Seeking Experience on My Electronics Plan

Just wanted to correct one thing... the Cortex M1 is 5W not 2.5W as mentioned earlier

Also, it will take your NMEA 2000 and 0183 instrument data (if you still have that) along with AIS and GPS and...

Re: VHF with "dialer" for MMSI?

Yep, I looked in the code to verify which NMEA 0183 sentence it was using.

Re: VHF with "dialer" for MMSI?

Yes depth, wind, heading, cross track, route, waypoint, temp, baro, etc are translated from N2K and output over WiFi. COG & SOG are output too and come from the XB itself. Here's a link to the doc:

Re: VHF with "dialer" for MMSI?

"DSC" is the sentence. From the NMEA 0183 spec:
This sentence is used to receive a call from, or provide data to, a radiotelephone using Digital Selective Calling in accordance with Recommendation...

Re: VHF with "dialer" for MMSI?

The WatchMate 670/750/850 and XB series uses a standard NMEA sentence to communicate back and forth with the VHF. But I'm still not sure if anyone other than Icom supports it. We'd like to get...

Re: VHF with "dialer" for MMSI?

Well, that's mostly my fault for setting that expectation and I'm sorry for letting you down. We do have a roadmap of new features that we're really keen on doing and that one is definitely on the...

Re: Vesper XB8000 Raymarine Integration

You shouldn't need to go to NMEA 2000 to get this to work. And hoolie is correct that all valid 0183 sentences are accepted as input and will by default be emitted on the 0183 and WiFi outputs...

Re: Shutting down AIS

Sorry, just getting back to this thread. But it looks like you've found the relevant references.

Anyway, yes your transponder can be sent various messages and commands from other AIS units...

Re: Shutting down AIS

I've never seen an AIS that consists of a separate receiver and transmitter box. Can't imagine how that works since transmission timing and payload is dependent on received data.

BTW: We...

@Kenomac

Have you been in touch with Vesper support (support@vespermarine.com)? At first blush it does sound like it might be some sort of data loop causing the MFD to hang (eg....

Re: Open CPN won't receive XB-8000 Data over WiFi

Your connection parameters look correct so I don't know why it is reconnecting every 10 seconds or so. But you can see that in the log with the repeated TCP connection established messages and I...

Re: AIS different brands any good??

That's right. The regulation doesn't permit programming the MMSI by an end user or boat owner regardless of any license they may have. Rather strict as sailjumanji points out and tends to be a pain...

Re: Vesper Marine AIS

Yes, we make an AIS device intended for government and industry which is primarily used to create virtual AtoN's. It can autonomously transmit large numbers of these if needed. AtoN's don't appear as...

Re: Vesper Marine AIS

The reason the standards exist is to ensure that AIS units interoperate with one another and don't cause interference, for example by transmitting when they aren't supposed to, and to ensure that...

Re: How do is display AIS from NMEA

It should work as described. But be careful if your PC is plugged into an AC adapter, inverter, or separate DC bank. From what I've read, the AIS650's USB isn't isolated and so you could damage the...

Re: Vesper Marine AIS

Unfortunately, you can't do one without the other. The H/W requirements are significantly different so that's why we didn't do it in the new version of Vision which couldn't accommodate it physically.
