Re: refer in the tropics, which type system do you have

This thread confirms a few things. Firstly there is no 'one size fits all'
As a manufacturer of marine refrigeration systems we see a wide range of applications and situations that need to be...

Re: Fridge cycling frequently for very short periods

Absolutely correct CF. The most common issue that causes these tiny 3 phase alternating current output motor drivers (MDM) to shut down is low voltage. (voltage collapse under load due to bad power...

Re: Boat can stay in Australia 3 years. How do you.

You've got that right Raymond.
Perhaps the OP could claim refugee status, just tell them that Donald is out to get him and practice a hearty rendition of Kumbaya. Should be good for a visa, sit down...

Re: Convert Cold Machine to Hydrocarbons

Some great info here and would be good if those members who do try a conversion to one of the blends could keep us informed with the results.

Re: I DID SOMETHING REALLY, REALLY, STUPID

Death by ice pick is very common especially for aluminium evaporators. Even frozen items moving around can pierce them.
Anyone with a mortally wounded evaporator should first check their insurance...

Re: refer in the tropics, which type system do you have

Sorry Mark,
Regarding your other questions:

1. Air cooled or water cooled?
A: Air and water cooled.. See AW480.

2. Do you use a holding plate system or an evaporator plate system?
A:...

Re: refer in the tropics, which type system do you have

What you are told is mostly correct although you don't have to have hull penetration to achieve the water cooling benefits.
Some here will say you don't need water cooling for cruising the tropics,...

Re: Isotherm watercooled pump not ticking on

Hi from another Ozzie!
If the pump ran ok when wired direct may I suggest the following:
Obtain a small 12VDC relay from Jaycar or similar.
Power the relay coil from the fan terminals on the MDM...

Re: 18 year old refrigeration -- fix it or ditch it?

Not all Richard! All Ozefridge air / water cooled system have air over the compressor / motor driver module regardless of whether it is operating as an air cooled or as a water cooled unit. Also has...

Re: 18 year old refrigeration -- fix it or ditch it?

I should have added that if the system leak is from the high side (that is from the compressor discharge, through to the condenser and back to the capillary), then there is a very good chance that...

Re: 18 year old refrigeration -- fix it or ditch it?

Good advice re soapy water Pilot. Electronic detectors for R134a only work when you can hear the gas escaping!... ie: useless!

Yes always fit a new proper filter dryer. Sometimes this may mean...

Re: 18 year old refrigeration -- fix it or ditch it?

There is no way of predicting the life of a compressor except to say that they will usually last virtually indefinitely if never 'opened' and properly maintained.

When manufactured and applied to...

Re: 18 year old refrigeration -- fix it or ditch it?

Hi Dockhead. There is some good advice here from previous posters but may I also suggest that once the leak is located and fixed, have a proper filter dryer like a Sporlan 032 or 052 (flared) fitted...

Re: Eutectic Fribge

These systems are very much out dated but can still do the job if set up correctly. Assuming the compressor is actually rotating, I suggest you have a fridgie check the compressor oil, leak test the...

Re: Australia - What a Beautiful Place to Cruise

Yes, my apology, I should have indicated the homeaffairs.gov.au site
The site I suggested is a legitimate business providing visa services.

They do charge for their services and are most helpful...

Must be costing their industries a...

Re: Regulating Voltage to a Fridge

Russ, with this added info, and if it originally worked ok, I believe your fridge is slightly short of gas.

To explain: Refrigerant first services the freezer then on in series to service the...

Re: Regulating Voltage to a Fridge

Regards the OP. As others have suggested the problem is most likely voltage drop.
Ramblinrod properly describes the process of checking this but this diagram may add to that and make it easier to...

Re: New refrigerator build.

Suggest a model 80-80-15 (80x80x15mm overall dimensions). (Suggest: Get a spare fan and store in a sealed plastic bag. You can also get grills to suit and if you get 4 of them they make neat covers...

Great job John. If the two holes in the dividing wall are for air transfer from the freezer to fridge, may I suggest you increase them both to say 75mm diameter (3") and bed an 80mm fan into the...

Re: keel cooled fridge and freezer on the hard

If you could set up a fine spray of water onto the keel condenser then you may be able to keep things frozen. If you know what % of time the unit normally runs then you may be able to operate the...

Possibly because it was easier to make an SS liner then foam into place. Bad practice because as Pelagic said, the metal transmits heat and is especially a problem if the SS metal doesn't have a...
